GAS RATE INCREASE – Bridgeport residents will see natural gas rates rise starting in June. Bridgeport City Council approved Monday a negotiated settlement between Atmos Energy Corp. and the Atmos Cities Steering Committee, which negotiates usage rates for member cities. The average consumer will see a monthly increase of $2.04, and commercial bills are expected to increase $6.27 monthly. Read more in the midweek Wise County Messenger on newsstands today.

STORM CHANCES – Wise County could see storms today. The National Weather Service sets storm chances at 30 percent this afternoon. Today’s high is expected to reach 78.

HOME BUYING 101 – A free Home Buying 101 class presented by Wells Fargo will be held at the Decatur Public Library 6 p.m. Thursday. The course is designed to help people become familiar with the home loan process. Call the library at 940-393-0290.

BUTTERFIELD PARADE – The Butterfield Stage Days parade is 5:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Bridgeport. Parade applications are available at Bridgeport City Hall or at the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. Completed applications are due by noon today. To participate, call 940-683-3404 or 940-683-2076.

CITY-WIDE CLEANUP – Boyd will hold a city-wide cleanup day Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Large trash containers will be available at 731 E. Rock Island. You must bring a current water bill or other proof of city residence. No hazardous materials, paint, batteries or tires will be accepted.

BLOOD DRIVE/BONE MARROW DRIVE – A “Pay it Forward” blood drive will be held 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. today at the Paradise High School old gym. A Be the Match bone marrow donor drive will take place 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Both will honor teacher Stacey Webb, who has been diagnosed with leukemia. For information call the high school at 940-969-5010.

GIFT MAKING – Chico Public Library will host a Hand Prints for Mom program 1-5 p.m. today. It is a come and go opportunity for those wishing to create a special Mother’s Day gift. Call Michelle or Emilie at 940-644-2330.

FAMILY PLACE – Chico Public Library’s Family Place play dates are back – 11 a.m. to noon every Thursday through May 25. They encourage child-led exploration and discovery through play and social interaction. Each week a local family service professional will be there to answer questions about early literacy, food and nutrition, music and play, child development, speech, hearing and language. FUNERAL for Cora Mae Greenwood, 80, is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Forestburg Church of Christ with burial at Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg. Family visitation is 7-9 tonight at White Family Funeral Home in Bowie. She was the mother of Leresa Greenwood of Alvord.
