SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE — Keep your eyes on the sky and an umbrella close by as severe thunderstorms are possible this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the main hazards include large hail and damaging wind with lesser chances of flooding and a tornado. The greatest severe weather threat will be late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. That will bring the risk of heavy rain and possibly flash flooding in some areas. Highs are expected in the lower-80s to upper-70s today through Sunday with overnight lows in the 60s.

PLAYOFF SOFTBALL RESULTS — Decatur (11-17-1) earned a 4A bi-district title by shutting out Gainesville at home Thursday, 10-0. Bridgeport (9-16) ended its season with a 15-8 loss to Burkburnett in Game 2 of its bi-district series at Gainesville High School. Boyd (26-8) earned a 7-1 win in Game 1 of its 3A bi-district series against Palmer at Castleberry High School. The Lady Jackets will play Game 2 against the Lady Bulldogs 6 p.m. Friday, while a tiebreaker is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, if necessary. Paradise (17-13-1) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 3-2 Game 1 bi-district series win over Scurry-Rosser at Ranchview High School. The Lady Panthers will battle the Lady Wildcats in Game 2 1 p.m. Saturday. If necessary, a tiebreaker will immediately follow. Chico (11-14) ended its season with a two losses in a 2A bi-district doubleheader against Muenster at Bowie High School, 17-2 and 16-1.

BASEBALL RESULTS — Chico (7-14, 3-11) ended its regular season with a 10-0 shutout loss to Nocona Thursday.

GIRLS STATE GOLF QUALIFIERS — Paradise’s Zoey Martinez shot a two-day 170 (89-81) to win the 3A Region II championships April 17-18 at Oak Hurst Golf Course in Bullard, and claimed her second straight state berth. Martinez will play in the 3A state tournament May 6-7 at ShadowGlen Golf Club in Manor. Decatur’s Tori Gardner also earned her second consecutive state berth after finishing tied for sixth with a two-day 153 (79-74) at the 4A Region I tournament April 16-17 at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. Gardner will close her career at the 4A state tournament May 6-7 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

COMMUNITY DAY — Hometown Building Centers in Bridgeport will host Community Day today featuring a free lunch from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., on-site adoptions from the Wise County Animal Shelter, vendor demonstrations, door prizes and live entertainment. The business will also present donations to various area entities.

WE ARE DECATUR DAY — The Decatur Leadership group has named Saturday as “We Are Decatur Day,” a day dedicated to bringing the community together through volunteer service projects. Visit wcmess.com/wearedecatur to sign up to volunteer or submit a need either you or someone you know has for the group to get accomplished. Examples of projects include light landscaping, cleaning and painting.

COTTONDALE CEMETERY ASSOCIATION HOMECOMING — The Cottondale Cemetery Association will hold its annual homecoming Sunday. Potluck dinner on the grounds is at 12:30 p.m., and the business meeting will begin at 1:30. Donations will be collected at the association’s business meeting. BRIDGEPORT CLEAN UP — The City of Bridgeport will have a clean-up day Saturday for city residents. Dumpsters will be available at 1409 Carpenter St. (new fire station) from 8 a.m. to noon for trash. No tires, paint, batteries or anything with freon will be accepted. Call 940-683-3480.

GREENWOOD CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETING — The Greenwood Cemetery Association’s annual meeting is noon Saturday at the Greenwood Fire Hall.

BASEBALL — After a win in Game 1 of the District 10-3A Battle of Texas 114 Tuesday, Paradise (19-9, 9-3) will travel eight miles to face Boyd (25-3-1, 12-1) in the rivalry series finale tonight at 7:30 p.m. Alvord (16-5, 12-1) closes out 10-2A with a home battle against Bellevue at 7 p.m. Decatur (19-9, 8-3) will host Diamond Hill—Jarvis in a non-district battle at 6:30 p.m.

FUNERALS — Service for Dr. Rex Gerald Sheppard, 74, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Decatur with graveside at Emerald Hills Cemetery at 2 p.m. in Kennedale. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

SERVICE for Martha Ledbetter, 70, of New Fairview is pending at Hawkins-Decatur.

FUNERAL for Mary Frances Farned, 87, of Bridgeport is 3 p.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

FUNERAL for Henry J. Wolfe, 88, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Friday at Boyd Church of Christ with burial at Pleasant Grove No. 2 Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Patti June Williams-Basting, 57, of Boyd is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins-Boyd. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
