About the Wise County Messenger

Established in 1880, the Wise County Messenger is one of Wise County’s oldest business institutions and its largest newspaper. The Messenger operated in different locations in the county early in its existence, has been published in Decatur, Texas since 1885. Roy and Jeannine Eaton have owned the Messenger since 1973. Roy is a past president of Texas Press Association and the National Newspaper Association. The Messenger is recognized as one of the best weekly newspapers in Texas and has earned the coveted “Sweepstakes” award for 12 of the last 14 years from the Texas Press Association’s “Better Newspaper Contest.”

The Messenger is a weekly newspaper that is published on Thursday. The Wise County Messenger Update is a news sheet published and distributed Monday through Friday with a countywide circulation of 1,500 each day. Update contains the latest capsulized local news and is also posted daily on www.wcmessenger.com. The Wise County Messenger website features a variety of advertising opportunities plus local news, breaking news and photos.

Mechanicals and Terms

Commission and Terms of Payment – Regular agency commission subject to national advertising rates. Terms: Cash/30 days.

General Rate Policy – All ads subject to open rate except ads from commissioned agencies which are subject to national rates. Minimum one-time insertion size is 6 column inches. Smaller ads require minimum insertion runs.

Special Services – Personal attention and consultation for all your advertising and promotion needs is included in our reasonable rate structure. Please call one of our representatives for help with your advertising program. Typesetting and photography included in rates. Minimal-size ads with photos and four-color process photos subject to extra charges.

Mechanical Specifications – 6 columns/1.83 inch column width, 21-inch page depth, printed offset.

Position – Placement of ads and/or preprint material in the Messenger is solely at the option of the publisher.

Refusal – The Messenger reserves the right to refuse or cancel any advertisement at any time.

Approval – All advertising accepted subject to publisher approval.

Advertising Deadlines

Thursday Edition

  • Classified Display Ads – 3 p.m. on Monday for the upcoming Thursday edition
  • Classified Line Ads – Noon on Tuesday
  • Legal Notices – 10 a.m. on Tuesday

PUBLISHER’S LIABILITY FOR ERROR – The publisher shall not be liable for slight changes or typographical errors that do not lessen the value of an advertisement. The Publisher’s liability for other errors or omissions in connection with an advertisement is strictly limited to publication of the advertisement in any subsequent issue or the refund of any monies paid for the advertisement.

INDEMNIFICATION – The Advertiser and/or Advertising Agency agrees to defend and indemnify the Publisher against any and all liability, loss or expenses arising from claims of libel, unfair competition, unfair trade practices, infringement of trademarks, copyrights, trade names, patents, or proprietary rights or violation of rights of privacy, resulting from the publication of the Advertiser’s advertisement.

Daily Update

Published – Monday through Friday

Delivered free to numerous businesses and public offices throughout the county. Update is an 8 1/2 x 11 newssheet of the early news of the day. Items include late-breaking and overnight news events, city council and school board meetings, sports events and scores, funeral notices and more.

Advertising Opportunities

All front-page ads on Update are $100 for one to three runs. Runs of 4 or more are $75. Ads are sold on a first-come first-served basis and may be retained indefinitely once a spot is secured. Update advertisers are not permitted to resell, trade or transfer a contracted ad spot to another business, political candidate or event, church or charity.

The back of Update is available with the following rates and terms:
Full size (8 1/2’’ x 11’’) – 1 Day = $200
2 advertisers running 1/2 page each = $110 each per day

Update Backs are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis and have copy deadlines of 2 days prior to the date of the run.
