BOONSVILLE GRASS FIRE — Local and regional fire crews worked to extinguish a large grass fire on County Road 3855 near Boonsville Sunday. The fire was reported about 4 p.m., and was officially put out at 12:34 a.m. Monday. The fire burned about 50 acres, according to Wise County Emergency Management Coordinator Cody Powell. Three homes on Private Road 3870 were placed under voluntary evacuation orders Sunday, but the orders have been lifted. Agencies responding to the fire were Boonsville-Balsora, Decatur, Bridgeport, Alvord, Salt Creek, Wise County ESD No. 2, Parker County ESD No. 1, Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System.

COUNTY TO CONSIDER RADIO SYSTEM — Wise County officials will look to address one of its most pressing public safety needs at 9 this morning, a new radio communications system. Wise County Commissioners will be presented a recommendation from the county radio committee for purchasing an all-encompassing system to replace the current communications system that is nearing the end of its life during their meeting on the third floor of the historic courthouse. “My hope is the commissioners hear the recommendation and agree to move forward,” said County Judge J.D. Clark. “I’ve sat in on a lot of the meetings. Countywide there’s a shared excitement about the project. It’ll be a good day for all our first responders.” The project is expected to cost approximately $6 million. The county is planning to use money from its $13.5 million allotment from the America Rescue Plan to cover the costs. Clark said the overhaul will include everything from new console stations for dispatches, new radio towers and radios for first responders.

DECATUR COUNCIL CONSIDERS AMENDING SIDEWALK ORDINANCE — During its meeting at 6 tonight, the Decatur City Council will hold a first reading on amending the city’s subdivision ordinance to provide a three-year period of effectiveness for curb, gutter and sidewalk variances when the property use is staying the same. The council will also hold public hearings on the zoning of 3.035- and 0.191-acre tracts of land in the 2100 block of Deer Park Road from single-family residential to townhouse residential and a 0.231-acre tract at 1303 Trinity Street from single-family to two-family residential.

CHANCE FOR STORMS — After a warm breezy day with temperatures in the mid 70s and winds between 15 to 25 mph under partly sunny skies, there’s a slight chance for thunderstorms tonight as a cool front moves into Wonderful Wise. Tonight’s low is expected to be in the mid 40s.

BULLS WIN LEAGUE TITLE — With a 2-1 win over Decatur Friday in the District 5-4A finale, the Bridgeport Bulls (19-3-1, 7-1) won the league title. Decatur (6-10-1) finished district 2-5-1 and secured the fourth playoff seed. The Decatur Lady Eagles (12-5-2, 3-3-2) finished in a draw at two with the Bridgeport Sissies, and finished as the third seed. Bridgeport (4-13-3, 2-4-2) claimed the league’s fourth playoff spot.

SOFTBALL — Boyd (14-5, 2-0) will travel to take on Valley View at 11 a.m. today. Paradise (8-5-1, 0-2) welcomes Whitesboro at 1 p.m. Chico (2-2) hosts Archer City at 11 a.m.

GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Genealogical Society meets 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Public Library. Suzanne Fritz from the Fort Worth Public Library will talk about her library’s genealogical resources and demonstrate how to navigate the new webiste.

MS SELF-HELP GROUP — The Decatur MS self-help group meets 6 to 8 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Dairy Queen, 804 W. Shoemaker. For information, call Janet McCallum, 972-415-8869.

RETIRED EDUCATORS MEETING — Wise County Retired School Personnel will meet 11:30 a.m. March 22 at Decatur Conference Center. The program will be presented by Terra Durban from the Center for Emotional Wellness in Decatur. Lunch is $13, and reservations are required. FAMILY TRIVIA — The Decatur Library Foundation is having a free Disney trivia night for the family, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Decatur Public Library. There will be food trucks, prizes and more.

NO COALITION MEETING — The Wise County Community Coalition, which normally meets the second Monday of the month, will not meet this month.
