Karen Turner McCurdy

1957-2024

McCurdy

Karen McCurdy (Annette to her Anna friends) passed from this world into the loving arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of March 7, 2024, at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas after a short, yet bravely fought, battle with cancer.

Karen grew up in Anna, the oldest daughter of Buddy and Juanita Hayes. She then moved to Fort Worth where she gave birth to her three sons, Jeff, Justin and John Turner.

In 1981 she moved to Boyd where, in 1983, she opened and successfully operated Double K BBQ for more than 20 years.

She met her husband, Bill McCurdy, in 1998 and they married on Nov. 4, 2009. Continuing in her entrepreneurial spirit, she and Bill opened a very successful aggregate business in 2007 that is still in full operation to this day.

She is survived by her mother, Juanita Hayes; husband, Bill McCurdy; sons, Jeff Turner, Justin Turner and wife, Misty, and John Turner and wife, Tabitha; grandsons, Caden, Trenton and Grayson Turner; granddaughter, Grace Turner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Buddy Hayes.

It wouldn’t be right not to mention that she was a fierce competitor in Cowboy Action Shooting where she and Bill were known as Hillside Hannah and Dirthill Bill. She entered the sport in 2016 and, just one year later, won a buckle in her first appearance at the Texas State Championship match. Her candor, wit and charm made her a favorite at every event, gaining dozens of close friends from literally all over the world. Those friendships have been manifested in the cards, letters, texts, posts and phone calls from friends as far away as Australia and Norway.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel.

Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory, 637 W. Van Alstyne Pkwy, Van Alstyne, TX.
