Wise earns four TGCA all-state nods

Starting her career with a pair of 4A state championships, Decatur senior libero Morgan Hammer has been recognized for her play on the court in her final campaign. 

Hammer, the two-time reigning All-Wise Libero of the Year, earned the Lady Eagles’ lone bid on the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s 4A all-state list. 

The four-year player recorded 425 digs in her senior campaign, along with 145 assists and 45 aces, and shared the District 8-4A Co-Libero of the Year award with Krum’s Olivia Burns

Decatur (22-17, 10-0) earned its fourth consecutive district title in 2023, extending their league record to 44-0 in four seasons under coach Catherine Foerster. The Lady Eagles claimed playoff wins over Gainesville and Graham before being knocked out by Glen Rose in the 4A Region I quarterfinals, 25-21, 16-25, 25-21, 25-21.

Boyd junior Emma Rosier and sophomore Bryleigh Wallace were selected as 3A all-state picks. 

Serving as the team’s setter, Rosier amassed 1,224 assists, along with 405 digs, 156 kills, 43 aces and 21 blocks. She currently holds the school record in assists with 3,861, and earned 10-3A first team honors.  

Earning the league’s Libero of the Year honor, Wallace broke a single-season school record in digs with 770, and added 59 assists, 58 aces and four kills.

Boyd (30-9, 12-2) finished second in league play behind Ponder. The Lady Jackets claimed a bi-district title over Dallas A+ Academy, but fell in five sets to state finalist Gunter, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 15-12. 

Northwest senior middle blocker/right side hitter Lillian Croshaw was selected to TGCA’s 5A all-state team. She finished her career with 316 kills, and had 88 blocks and 46 digs. 

Northwest (29-10) was second in 5-5A behind Aledo. The Lady Texans swept Trimble Tech for a bi-district title, but fell to Grapevine in an area playoff match, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 27-25.

Wise County athletes also brought home 15 academic all-state awards, including Northwest’s Crowshaw, Rylee Jackson and Madison Scrivner; Decatur’s Dani Blair, Hammer, Ashton Harrison, Rubye Helm, Haylie Huggins, Ellie Miller, and Allie Watkins; Bridgeport’s Kalista Holley and Ava Townsend;  and Boyd’s Maleigh Aguilar, Reegan Hammer and Megan Hanley.
