2,100-HOME DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSED – A developer presented plans for a 2,100-home development on 720 acres in the New Fairview extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) at the corner of Farm Road 407 and South County Line Road in Denton County Monday night. Don Dykstra of Bloomfield Homes said the Constellation Lake development is expected start with construction on 100 one-acre lots on the perimeter of the development later this year. Work on the infrastructure for the other 2,000 homes is expected to also begin late in 2020. Along with the homes, there is 300,000 square feet of commercial space planned on the FM 407 frontage. Dykstra approached the city Monday to gauge the city council’s interest in annexing the development on land recently added to the city’s ETJ after Fort Worth released it. The city is in talks with Dykstra on a planned improvement district, which would apply assessments to the properties to pay for streets, drainage and park improvements. Water and sewer for the development would be provided by Aqua Texas. The city and Dykstra are also working on a developer’s agreement. City Attorney Bradley Anderle said he expects documents to be brought to the council for review in the next two months.

COUNCIL CREATES PLACES – The New Fairview city council Monday passed an ordinance to create places on the council and move from the current at-large spots. With the change, Scott Johnson is now Place 1, Charlie Stumm Place 2, Rick White Place 3, Rebecca McPherson Place 4 and William Payne Place 5. Place 1, 3 and 5 will be on May’s ballot for a full two-year term. Places 2 and 4 will be contested in a special election in May for one-year unexpired terms after McPherson and Stumm were appointed to fill their spots in the past year.

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE – Decatur and Bridgeport teams renew their rivalry on the hardwood tonight in Bridgeport. The girls game tips off shortly after 6 p.m. The boys game will follow. Alvord teams take on Poolville at home. Boyd squads face Millsap at home. Chico teams head to Muenster. The Paradise boys and girls will go to Tolar. Slidell teams welcome in Gold-Burg.

RAIN CHANCES RETURN – After a mostly cloudy day today with a high around 51 degrees, we’ll see a 90 percent chance of rain overnight. Rain chances continue throughout the day Wednesday.

RUNAWAY BAY TO CONSIDER 2ND AMENDMENT ORDINANCE – Runaway Bay Mayor Herman “Barry” White wants to reaffirm the city’s stance on the second amendment. Tonight, the Runaway Bay city council will consider Resolution No. 357 in support of citizens’ rights to bear arms as provided by the second amendment in the U.S. Constitution. The council will be presented the resolution at its 6 p.m. meeting, which has been moved to the RB Golf Club, 400 Half Moon Way. White is expecting a large crowd for the meeting, including veteran groups, Texas District 30 Senator Pat Fallon (R-Prosper) and other area officials. “We’re sending a loud message that the city is for the second amendment,” White said. HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The monthly meeting of the Wise County Historical Society is noon Thursday at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Lunch will be served, so RSVP to the museum at 940-627-5586 by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

READERS CHOICE – Wednesday is the deadline to vote in the Wise County Messenger’s Readers Choice Awards. Ballots must be returned to the Messenger office by 5 p.m. tomorrow. A ballot was included in the Saturday, Jan. 18 Messenger still available on newsstands.
