FREEZING TEMPERATURES CAUSE ISSUES WITH WATER TOWER — Extreme cold Monday morning resulted in the water tower on Thompson Street in Decatur releasing several hundred gallons of water. The release of water was due to a valve issue that was caused by the freezing temperatures, according to a City of Decatur press release. Water could be seen flowing down South Trinity Street near the Motel 6 parking lot, where some areas of the road and motel property were iced over. Some social media posts also indicated that the parking lot of Brandi’s Country Kitchen was flooded and began to ice over, leading to its closure Monday morning. “Due to the freezing weather conditions, the water runoff led to the formation of ice on side streets and parking lots in the immediate surrounding area,” the press release stated. “Decatur Police collaborated with the Water Department to manage traffic, ensuring the safety of residents and commuters.”
