SHOOTING SUSPECT IDENTIFIED — Nathaniel Jovanni Dominguez, 23, of Bridgeport was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 and unlawful carrying of a weapon in connection with the shooting at Bridgeport Medical Lodge Sunday, according to new information provided by Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford. He currently sits in the Wise County Jail with bonds set at $20,000, $12,500 and $2,500 for the respective charges, according to jail records. According to Stanford, the victim, 39-year-old James Brown III, was pronounced dead at Medical City Decatur at 1:35 p.m. Sunday. “At this point, the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. Bridgeport Police detectives, Wise County Sheriff’s Department, and our local Texas Rangers are actively working on this investigation. The investigators continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses associated with this incident. We believe this systematic approach will help provide a more clear picture of the events leading to the victim’s death,” Stanford said in a message to the Messenger Monday.

PRIMARY EARLY VOTING BEGINS — Early voting in the March 5 primary election begins today and continues through Friday, March 1. Note that a couple of the early voting locations have changed from previous years. Early voting locations include Decatur Conference Center (Chisholm Suites), 2010 U.S. 380; Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; Bridgeport Public Library, 2159 10th St.; and Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm. Voting hours today through Friday of this week are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Wise County Elections Administrator Sabra Srader noted that more voting machines have been added to the Boyd location, since it is in a high-growth area of the county. Read more online here.

SOFTBALL RESULTS — Abby Atkinson threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and three walks to lead Boyd (6-2) to a 10-0 shutout win over Decatur (1-3-1) Monday. Paradise fell to 1-6 after a 15-0 loss to Peaster.

BASEBALL RESULTS — Bridgeport (0-1) opened the 2024 season with a 9-3 loss to Jacksboro Monday.

SPRING-LIKE TEMPERATURES — High temperatures today and Wednesday are expected to be around 80 degrees with overnight lows in the mid- to upper-50s.

GIRLS PLAYOFF BASKETBALL — No. 7 Decatur (30-5) will battle Stephenville in a 4A Region I quarterfinal battle 6:30 tonight at Aledo High School.

BOYS PLAYOFF BASKETBALL — Decatur (22-11) will open the 4A playoffs with a first-round battle against Gainesville 6 tonight at Lake Dallas High School. Earning its first playoff berth since 2009, Boyd (16-18) will battle 3A No. 11 Dallas Madison 7 p.m. at R.L. Thornton High School in Carrollton. No. 16 Paradise (23-11) will square off against Life Oak Cliff 7 p.m. at Denton Guyer High School. Alvord (19-16) battles Sam Rayburn in a 2A bi-district contest 6 p.m. at Celina High School. No. 11 Slidell (26-8) will start the 1A playoffs for the last time with a first-round bout against Bryson 7:30 p.m. at Bowie High School.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Historical Society’s monthly meeting is noon Thursday at Grace Baptist Church in Decatur. Lunch will be served. The group will discuss Phase 2 of the reconstruction of the museum.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT — The Wise County Caregiver support group meets 2 p.m. every third Tuesday at the Decatur Conference Center. The Alzheimer’s Association support group provides emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. FUNERAL for Glenda Joyce Watkins, 77, of Sunset is 3 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

NO SERVICE is scheduled for Robert Carl Wall, 69, of Runaway Bay. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for James Brown III, 39, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Marilynn Collins, 87, of Alvord is 2 p.m. today at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur.

MEMORIAL for Bob Hamric, 60, of Bridgeport is 2-5 p.m. March 30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Muenster.
