MAN SENTENCED IN ATTACK ON PASTOR — A Decatur man has been sentenced to prison for a 2021 incident in which he is accused of threatening a local preacher with a knife during a funeral. Larry Neil Guthrie, 49, pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to six years in prison, according to court records. Guthrie has remained in jail since his arrest Nov. 10, 2021, a few days after the incident. According to the arrest affidavit in the case, Guthrie approached U-Turn World Ministries pastor Kevin Alexander while the latter was officiating a funeral at the Chico church and grabbed him. The pastor was able to get Guthrie outside where the man pulled a knife before Alexander was able to strike Guthrie in self-defense and disarm him, according to the affidavit.
RAIN REPORT — Rainfall totals from yesterday and overnight included 3.2 inches in Cottondale, 1.15 in Decatur, 0.73 in Bridgeport, 0.45 in Greenwood and 0.45 in Alvord. Rain chances will decrease throughout today with mostly cloudy skies and a high around 70 degrees. A cold front will move through the area this afternoon, dropping the temperature to around 39 degrees overnight. It will be cooler this weekend with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s and lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s Saturday and Sunday.

BOYS SOCCER — Decatur (12-6, 7-2) will close out District 8-4A play with a home battle against Springtown today at 5:30 p.m. Bridgeport (15-3-1, 7-2) will face Castleberry in its league finale 5:30 p.m. at Bull Memorial Stadium.
GIRLS SOCCER — Bridgeport (8-9-1, 5-4) will host Castleberry in the District 8-4A finale tonight at 7:15 p.m. Decatur (14-3-1, 9-0) looks to claim its second straight unbeaten league title, as the Lady Eagles welcome Springtown at 7:15 p.m.
SOFTBALL — Decatur (3-11-1) will be on the road tonight, traveling to face Aubrey at 6 p.m. Alvord (7-4, 0-1) will host Saint Jo in a District 10-2A battle at 5 p.m. Chico (6-6, 0-2) hosts a 9-2A contest against Perrin-Whitt at 5 p.m.
