With 14 total medals and 18 area bids, the Paradise Panthers claimed their third district title in four years last week.
Paradise scored 160.5 points to win the District 10-3A championship Thursday, April 4 at Whitesboro High School. Ponder finished second with 126 — 2 points ahead of third-place Whitesboro.
Colton Prestridge led the Panthers with three gold medals. He won the 100 in 11.36, and added wins in the 4×100 (44.29) with Koby Dickens, Austin Iglesias and Conner Poe, and 4×200 (1:32.14) with Elijah Jennings, Iglesias and Poe.
Jacob Chism struck gold in the 300 hurdles (41.66). He also garnered silver in the 110 hurdles (16.04) and bronze in triple jump (42-04.50), and punched his ticket to the area meet in long jump (20-03.75).
Iglesias jumped 20-08 to claim the league title in long jump, and qualified for area in the 200 in 23.67. Landon Morrison ran 15.74 to grab gold in the 110 hurdles.
Noah Ratcliffe was a bronze medalist in the 400 (51.58), and earned an area berth in the 4×400 (3:35.46) with Lyric Barrett, Rylan Brajnik and Gunner Eyster.
Brajnik placed third l in the 800 in 2:01.70, while Paradise’s Fabian Ortiz (discus — 119-11), Chase Harmon (100 — 11.45) and Brayden Matthews (shot put — 40-03.75) also secured bronze medals.
Blake Read added a pair of area-qualifying performances by finishing fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.28) and 300 hurdles (42.87).
The Boyd Yellowjackets were fourth with 67.50 — 17.5 ahead of fifth-place Pilot Point.
Ostan Hernandez earned Boyd’s lone league title in the 3,200 (10:02.30). He also ran 4:41.55 for bronze in the 1,600.
Blake McDaniel was the runner-up in the 100 (11.40), and garnered silver in the 4×100 (44.34) with Luke Brown, Carson Nelson and Morgan Cain.
Brown, Nelson and Cain, along with Titan Long, ran 1:32.86 for second place in the 4×200.
In the girls division, the Paradise Lady Panthers earned 11 total medals and 13 area berths, finishing second in the team standings with 114 — 8 points behind district champion Whitesboro. Ponder took the team bronze with 110.
Channing Beauvais was the Lady Panthers’ top athlete with three medals. She won the high jump with a leap of 5-01, and secured silver medals in the 100 hurdles (16.53) and 4×200 (1:49.68) with Jewlya McCassland, Ady Stoltz and Aubrey Jordan.
Vivian Caddell picked up a district title in the 100 hurdles in 16.40, and ran 47.93 for second place in the 300 hurdles. She also was a bronze medalist in the 4×400 (4:12.73) with Jaycee Underwood, McCassland and Stoltz.
Underwood’s jump of 15-06.50 secured the gold medal. She also finished third in the 300 hurdles (49.42).
Jordan grabbed silver in triple jump (32-09.75), and qualified for area in the 200 (27.37) and long jump (14-11.50).
Stoltz was a bronze medalist in the 400 in 1:01.99. Morgan Mitschke threw 30-03 for third place in shot put.
The Boyd Lady Jackets claimed three medals and placed seventh with 55 — 1 point behind sixth-place Callisburg.
Marley Long clocked 26.30 to win the 200. She added a gold medal in the 4×200 (1:46.33) and silver in the 4×100 (51.15) with Olivia Dunkleberger, Brooklynn Wallace and Bryleigh Wallace.
Boyd and Paradise will compete at the District 9/10-3A area championships Thursday, April 11 at Whitesboro High School.
