A Northlake man involved in a wrong-way crash that killed a young child and seriously injured another days before Christmas two years ago in Rhome has been given prison time.

According to court records, Christopher Glen Fowler, 20, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty last Thursday to accident involving death and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both second degree felony offenses which carried a punishment range of 2 to 20 years in prison.

Fowler was driving north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 in a Nissan SUV at approximately 1:30 a.m. Dec. 19, 2021, before colliding with a Toyota passenger vehicle with six members of the Osemeke family near Pioneer Road, according to the Rhome Police Department. The family was returning home to Fort Worth after visiting family in Decatur.

Gideon Osemeke, 5, was pronounced dead on the scene. Maverick Bible-Avant, 14, was flown to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth with critical injuries, according to police.

Following the wreck, Fowler fled the scene, leading to a multi-departmental search which included Rhome Police, Texas Rangers, Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was located at his home and arrested later that day on manslaughter and two charges of accident involving personal injury or death.

Court records show as part of the plea agreement, a manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 2 or 2A in an amount of 4 to 400 grams, a first degree felony offense, was dismissed.
