Our dearly loved Momma, Memaw and Mimi, Karoline “Micki” Rather, departed this world after a wonderful 85 years of life on March 29, 2024, in Sugarland. 

She was born on Jan. 15, 1939, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She married James “Jim” Rather on March 23, 1987, and they settled in Houston in 1996 and then later in Katy. 

Micki was the quintessential matriarch of her family. She gave unconditional love and endless advice and support to all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, without ever expecting anything in return. She spent a good portion of her married life alongside her husband on numerous cross-country truck driving adventures and in the Katy area following the escapades of the next generation of her family. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2017, her daughter, Kristi Rather in 2023 and her best friend, Linda Elsmere, in 2021. 

Those left behind to carry on the family legacy in Micki’s absence are her daughters, Joy “Dodi” McDowell of Katy, Lynn of Crosby and Bonita; stepdaughters, Jennifer of Oklahoma City, and Jamie Rather Baird and husband, Jason of Alvord; a son, Dusty Rather of California; grandchildren, including Michelle Manuel and husband, Lawrence, of Katy, Tyler, Emilee, Aubrey, Boston, and Camden Baird of Alvord; and numerous great-grandchildren, including Javon, Cameron, and Kennedie Manuel of Katy.
