John Warren Thompson

1944-2023

Thompson

John Warren Thompson went to be with our Lord Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at his home in Decatur.
John (Warren} was born July 28, 1944, to Melvin and Zena Thompson.
Warren attended grades 1-12 in the Decatur school system. He was very active in many different school clubs. He was on the school newspaper staff, in the stage band, and it was awesome to watch Warren lead the Fighting Eagles Marching Band as drum major.
Warren graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in marketing and design, and he served the U.S. Army overseas in Germany and within the United States. Following his discharge, Warren started a very successful interior decorating business in Houston.
Warren had two Scottish, West Highland Terriers (Westies) — Stan and Ollie. His dogs were his family and he loved them dearly. Stan and Ollie were show dogs winning many awards at home and abroad.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Zena Maples Thompson; grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Maples, Guinn and Evelyn Thompson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Those left behind to cherish his memory are the Maples cousins: Barbara Maples Simpson and husband, Ken, Trumanell Maples, Paula Rhyne, Mary Ann Bullington and their families; the Thompson cousins, Judy Grelson and husband, Greg, Nancy Brickey and husband, David, and their families; their cousins, caregiver and manager of the farm, Joe Greene, and his family, and many more second and third cousins, as well as many classmates and longtime friends. Warren’s families were pioneers in the history of Wise County. Those who choose to donate in his memory, are asked to consider supporting the Wise County Historical Society to be a part of the reconstruction of history that was lost in the recent fire. The family wishes to thank Warren’s caregivers over the last five years, Veronica. Katrina, Eugenia, Soladad, Sandra, Reyna, Terri and Kim. Also, Magdelene, Renew, Solaris Hospice and his friend and physical therapist, Shane. Thank you for your care, your love and your heart. We all were blessed by knowing you as you cared for our loved one.
A private service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery.
