Intoxication assaults among March indictments


Two women involved in separate wrecks two weeks apart in 2022 have been indicted by a Wise County grand jury for intoxication assault.

Emily Renea Garling of Allen and Jennifer Lynn Dennis of Boyd were indicted for the third degree felony offense March 21.

Garling, who was 20 at the time of her wreck, was involved in a two-vehicle collision Oct. 26, 2022, at the intersection of Farm Road 51 and Farm Road 455 near Slidell.

Garling was northbound on FM 51 in a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic at 5:45 a.m. when she began to make a left turn onto FM 455, failing to yield to a southbound 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by James Edward Hudgins, 55, of Slidell, according to the Department of Public Safety crash report.

Hudgins was seriously injured and was taken by Wise County EMS to Medical City Denton with undisclosed injuries. Garling was not injured.

According to the crash report, Garling had a blood alcohol level of .096, over the legal limit of .08.

Dennis, who was 31 at the time of the crash, was involved in a three-vehicle wreck Nov. 9, 2022, near the intersection of Farm Road 718 and Farm Road 3433 in Newark.

Dennis was northbound on FM 718 and became distracted something in a nearby field when she failed to control her speed, striking the rear of a second vehicle stopped at the intersection and pushing that vehicle into a third vehicle, according to the DPS crash report. Dennis was injured and taken to Medical City Decatur (then known as Wise Health System) while the driver of the second vehicle, Kenneth Lee Villeneuve, who was 62 at the time, of Rhome was injured and taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Dennis had a blood alcohol level of .133, according to the crash report.

Court records show Dennis was also charged with a Class A misdemeanor offfense of unlawful carrying of a weapon from the same incident.
