EARLY VOTING BEGINS TODAY — Early voting for the May 2 city and school election begins today. The early voting period continues Wednesday through Friday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week. There is no voting tomorrow due to the state holiday of San Jacinto Day. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depending on where you live, here is the list of voting locations (note: some entities overlap other entities, and where you vote is determined by your voting precinct): City of Alvord — Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm St.; City of Bridgeport with Bridgeport ISD — Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave.; City of Chico — Chico City Hall (Community Room), 400 S. Hovey; City of Lake Bridgeport with Bridgeport ISD — Lake Bridgeport City Hall, 301 S. Main St.; City of Runaway Bay with Bridgeport ISD — Norma Coble Civic Center, 51 Runaway Bay Dr.; Decatur ISD — Decatur City Hall, 201 E. Walnut; and Rolling V Ranch Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 — Newark City Hall, 209 Hudson St. A full list of voting locations by precinct and a sample ballot can be found at the Wise County Elections webpage. This year’s ballot includes eight contested city council/mayor races (in Alvord, Bridgeport, Chico, Lake Bridgeport and Runaway Bay), four contested school board races (in Bridgeport and Decatur), a $137 million bond election for Decatur ISD voters and a directors election for Rolling V Ranch Water Control and Improvement District No. 1.
RAIN CHANCES RETURN TONIGHT — After a partly sunny day with a high around 70, the forecast includes a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight.
SOFTBALL RESULTS — Ashlynn Sandate swung for three RBIs, while Makayla Gresham turned in a strong pitching performance, surrendering four hits with seven strikeouts to lead Alvord (14-8-2, 6-4) to a 15-0 District 10-2A shutout win over Chico (1-11, 0-10) Friday, earning the Lady Bulldogs their first postseason berth under coach Chelsey Heller. Decatur (11-9) secured a playoff bid thanks to a walk-off single by Brooklyn Mangus in a 10-9 8-inning victory over Burkburnett.
BASEBALL RESULTS — Decatur (18-6-1) improved to 10-0 in the District 7-4A standings following a sweep against Eagle Mountain with a 3-2 win Friday. Bridgeport (10-15-1, 5-5) recorded an 11-0 league shutout victory over Lake Worth. In 10-3A, Boyd (25-2, 8-2) blanked Ponder Friday 6-0, and earned a 9-1 non-district win over Bowie Saturday. Paradise (23-3, 10-0) remains unbeaten in district play after shutting out Callisburg in Game 2 of its series, 10-0. Alvord (16-8) fell to 5-3 in 10-2A after a 4-0 shutout loss to Lindsay.
BOND PRESENTATION — Decatur ISD will host a community bond presentation (in Spanish and English) 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at McCarroll Middle School (inside the multipurpose building, located behind the school). SOFTBALL — Boyd (27-2, 11-0) and Paradise (25-4-1, 9-2) will clash in the teams’ District 10-3A finale 5 tonight at Paradise High School. The game was rescheduled due to inclement weather Saturday.
BASEBALL — Decatur will open its final District 7-4A series against Springtown 6:30 p.m. today at home.
