Wise teams net 16 TABC All-Region honors

Following a run to their first boys basketball state title, the Paradise Panthers also brought home a trio of Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region selections.

Junior guard Cooper Jones and senior forwards Max Jordan and Will McGregor represented the Panthers on the TABC 3A Region II All-Region Team.

A 3A Division II all-state tournament team selection, Jones put down 18 points per game, along with 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals.

Claiming the 3AII state tournament MVP honor, Jordan averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1 steal in his final campaign.

McGregor also scored double-digit points in his final season with 10.4 points, along with 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals.

Boyd senior guard Lex Horton was also selected to the TABC 3A  Region II All-Region Team.

Horton’s 22.6 points per game led Boyd’s scorers. He also averaged 7.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals.

In his first season with the Bulls, Bridgeport sophomore guard Julius Johnson was tapped to the TABC 4A Region I All-Region Team.

Johnson averaged 22 points per game with four rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals. He also claimed TABC’s 4A individual free throw award, leading the state in all classifications with 246 made shots at the charity stripe.

Chico senior guard Jordan Weiland grabbed a spot on TABC’s 2A Region II All-Region Team after finishing as the state’s second-leading scorer, regardless of classification.

Weiland averaged a double-double with 31.6 points and 10.8 rebounds. He also recorded 4.3 steals, 4.2 assists and 3.7 blocks per game.

Slidell sophomore forward Cash Noday and sophomore guard Carter Pierce also earned TABC 2A Region II All-Region berths.

Shooting 48.2 percent from field goal range and 34.2 percent from behind the 3-point arc, Noday was the Hounds’ top offensive player, averaging 22.3 points with 6.5 rebounds, two steals and 1.6 assists.

Pierce was second in scoring behind Noday with 14.1 points per game. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals.

The Decatur Lady Eagles captured their second straight 4AI state championship title, and were represented on the TABC 4A Region I Team by senior post Bralyn Peck, senior guard Laken Coffman, sophomore guard Style Brazile and sophomore post Sayler Peck.

Bralyn Peck — an Oklahoma State signee — dropped a team-high 17.6 points per game in her fourth and final campaign, along with 7.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals.

After a season-ending knee injury last season, Coffman returned to the court for her final campaign and averaged 6.7 points, along with 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals.

Brazile averaged 15.5 points, finishing second in scoring behind Peck in her sophomore season. She led the Lady Eagles in assists (5.1) and steals (2.9), and pulled down 3.9 rebounds.

Sayler Peck snagged 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, and added 7.4 points and 1.8 assists

Paradise freshman guard Hartley Barnes’ breakout rookie season allowed her to take home a 3A Region II All-Region nod, along with senior guard Renlee Longenbaugh and junior guard Brittan Richey.

Barnes solidified her spot in Paradise’s starting lineup by averaging 11.8 points with 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.4 assists.

In her first and only season with Paradise, Longenbaugh averaged a team-high in points (13.3), steals (4.1) and assists (2.7), and grabbed 2.4 rebounds per game.

Richey was second in scoring behind Longenbaugh with 12.5 points per game, along with 2.1 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds.

Slidell senior guard Julissa Gonzalez was Wise’s lone player picked for the TABC 2A Region II squad.

Gonzalez  averaged 14 points in her final season, along with six assists and five rebounds.
