HOSPITAL PERFORMS FIRST AFIB PROCEDURE IN WISE — Medical City Decatur this week announced it had successfully completed the first atrial fibrillation ablation procedure in Wise County. AFib, the most common type of irregular heartbeat, can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. The goal of ablation is to eliminate or isolate the source of these abnormal signals. “Performing the first AFib procedure in Wise County reflects our commitment to system wide excellence and innovation close to home,” Jason Wren, Medical City Decatur CEO, said in a news release. The achievement also coincides with Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month in September, a national observance dedicated to increasing the understanding of AFib’s symptoms, risks and treatment options.
