VOTERS REJECT BOYD SCHOOL BOND — For the second time in six months, voters living in Boyd ISD have rejected the district’s $63 million Phase 3 bond proposal at the polls. The single-proposition school bond Tuesday was voted down 680-607 — an approximate 53 to 47 percent margin of defeat. Despite a larger voter turnout, the issue did not fare any better in its second time on the ballot, having previously flunked during the May general election 56 percent to 44 percent (383-297). The district called for a bond election in July to address overcapacity issues, primarily at the Boyd Elementary campus. At the bond’s centerpiece was a two-story, 86,000 square-foot intermediate school campus for Grades 3 through 6 priced at $50 million. Read more online here.

PARADISE RESULTS — Voters have elected for a change to the mayor’s seat in the City of Paradise. Ashley Blumensaadt was voted as the next city leader Tuesday, beating incumbent mayor Amanda Black by an 80-44 margin. Black has served as Paradise’s mayor since 2021 when she was first elected to the position. In Paradise ISD, incumbent school board member Russell Read overwhelmingly won his race against Jon Weidanz to retain his seat. Read defeated Weidanz 505-154 in the Place 6 race, the only contested race in PISD Tuesday.
NORTHWEST VOTERS PASS FUNDING PROPOSITION — Northwest ISD’s Prop A passed with 52 percent of the vote Tuesday, although the measure wasn’t as popular with Wise County voters. In Wise County only, the measure was supported by only 38 percent of voters. The district said the proposition, which would increase the district’s maintenance and operations (M&O) tax rate by three cents, is projected to generate $12 million in new operations funding. Northwest ISD plans to use $8 million of this funding on class sizes and student programs, while the remaining $4 million will be used to provide teacher and staff raises.
DECATUR CHARTER AMENDMENTS PASS — All 24 of Decatur’s proposed city charter amendments passed in the Nov. 4 election by wide margins, according to preliminary results posted by the Wise County Elections Office. One of the most significant changes from the charter election establishes new term limits for city council members. Under the new rules, council members may serve up to three three-year terms — a maximum of nine years — rather than the current limit of four two-year terms, or eight years. The change will be phased in beginning with the 2027 election and will not affect the terms of current officeholders. Read more online here.
