BULLS REPEAT AS 4A STATE GOLF CHAMPS — The Bridgeport Bulls claimed the 4A state title for the second consecutive season after carding a two-round 590 (295-295) Tuesday at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland. Bridgeport beat runner-up Andrews (617) by 27 strokes, while Mabank placed third with 624. The Bulls’ Aiden Green claimed the 4A individual state champion title at 2-under (73-69—142). Brady Mann closed his high school golf career with a bronze medal. His (71-74, 145) put him in a tie for second, but he was beaten out by Kyle Doolittle of Davenport in a one-hole playoff. MINOR FIRE REPORTED AT HISTORIC CHURCH — Decatur Fire Department investigated an electrical fire at one of Decatur’s oldest religious institutions late Tuesday night. After a multi departmental response, it appears that any possible damage to First United Methodist Church of Decatur was contained to an elevator shaft. Asst. Fire Chief Joe Boyd said the fire was reported around 11 p.m. at 104 S. Miller St. First responding units noted an apparent smoke odor at the scene, making entry to determine the smoke was coming from the elevator shaft of the historic building. There were no apparent flames as firefighters cased each story of the church. As of midnight, firefighters had not found cause for concern regarding the possible spread of an electrical fire.
PANTHERS PLACE 10TH AT 3A STATE GOLF TOURNAMENT — Making their first appearance in more than a decade, the Paradise Panthers carded a 10th place team finish at the 3A state golf tournament Tuesday at Austin’s Jimmy Clay Golf Course. The Panthers scored 680 (340-340), beating 11th-place Corpus Christi London (696) by 16. Wall won the state title with 609. Cameron Yoe, Pottsboro and Maypearl tied for second with 633, but Cameron Yoe and Pottsboro took silver and bronze, respectively, after a playoff. Paradise’s Levi Clayton claimed a top 25 finish, finishing in a four-way tie for 25th with 159 (82-77). The Panthers’ roster also included Will Moffitt (44th, 84-84—168), Cooper Meyers (49th, 85-86—171), Collin Euler (T-61st, 89-93—182) and Cougar Gentry (71st, 105-95—200).
FOGGY START — Fog shrouded Wise County at daybreak this morning, but we should see partly sunny skies later today with a slight chance of thunderstorms this evening. Rainfall totals from yesterday included 0.9 of an inch in Greenwood, 0.67 in Bridgeport and 0.58 in Alvord. Several roadways around Wise County remain closed due to flooding, including major roadways such as FM 3259 near Paradise and FM 730 near Boyd.
NORTHWEST NAMES NEXT PRINCIPAL — Northwest ISD has named Daryl Porter as the next principal of Northwest High School. Porter has served as principal of Brewer High School in White Settlement ISD for the past three years, and he previously served as the district’s director of career and technical education. Prior to his time in White Settlement ISD, Porter served in Crowley ISD as an assistant principal, principal and coordinator of district CTE programs.
SELENA TRIBUTE CONCERT — The “Baile De Bridgeport” festival returns this Friday to Bridgeport Main Street with a free performance by Amanda Solis and The Ultimate Selena Experience, a popular tribute to the legendary Selena Quintanilla, at 9:30 p.m. The festival kicks off at 7 p.m. with live Latino bands, more than 20 Latino-inspired food vendors, and drinks available for purchase (no outside alcohol allowed).
