BOYD WOMAN ARRESTED ON MURDER CHARGE — A Boyd woman has been arrested in connection with a Parker County fentanyl overdose death. Brittaney Taylor Fortner, 25, was arrested July 19 in Wise County on a charge of murder. Parker County District Attorney Jeff Swain said Fortner was indicted by a grand jury July 17, which led to the arrest warrant. “The Parker County grand jury returned an indictment charging Fortner with murder and delivery of a controlled substance causing death related to the Oct. 22, 2024, fentanyl overdose of Christina Whitehead,” Swain said. “At the time of her death, Whitehead was 44 years old and resided in northern Parker County.” Fortner has been brought to Parker County where she remained in jail on a $250,000 bond Wednesday. HOHMAN NAMED YOUNG ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL — Andrew Hohman was hired as the next principal at Young Elementary School following a vote of the Decatur School Board Tuesday. Hohman previously worked in the Bridgeport school district as high school principal and principal of the district’s Alternative Learning Center. He will take over the leadership reins from Lana Coffman, who was recently named Decatur ISD’s director of assessment, accountability and federal programs.
1 HURT IN CHICO WRECK — A single-vehicle accident west of Chico resulted in one man being flown to a Denton hospital Tuesday. Just before 1:30 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the 400 block of County Road 1744 near the westernmost portion of Wise County for the wreck. According to Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger, a small sedan occupied by one male driver collided with a concrete fence pillar. The patient was transported to Sand Flat Volunteer Fire Department, which was used as an air ambulance landing zone. The patient was flown via Lifeteam AirEvac 68 to Medical City Denton. Wise County EMS R-1, M-2, EMS-2, Sand Flat VFD and Crafton VFD all responded to the scene.
HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED — Wise County will be under a heat advisory noon to 7 p.m. today. A high temperature around 102 with heat index values as high as 106 are expected.
PARADISE WATER RESTRICTIONS — Paradise water customers are restricted to outdoor watering once a week at this time after Walnut Creek Special Utility District this week announced Stage 2 water restrictions are in effect. Customers with odd numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, and even numbered addresses can water on Thursdays. Watering times are midnight to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight on watering days.
RHOME WATER RESTRICTIONS — Rhome water customers are restricted to outdoor watering once a week at this time after Walnut Creek Special Utility District this week announced Stage 2 water restrictions are in effect. City of Rhome residents with even number addresses are asked to limit outdoor watering to Mondays and odd addresses to Fridays. For residents of Rolling V Ranch, Reunion neighborhoods with even number addresses can water on Tuesdays while odd number addresses can water on Wednesdays. For Bluestem neighborhoods, even number addresses can water on Saturdays while odd number addresses can water on Sundays.
