ELEVATED FIRE THREAT RETURNS — Wise County is included in an area expected to see an elevated fire threat today and Thursday. Well above average temperatures combined with low afternoon humidity and dry vegetation have created an increased threat for grass fires. Wise County will also be under a fire weather watch from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. A fire weather watch means critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur, including winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and humidity as low as 10 percent. High temperatures today and tomorrow are expected to be in the mid-70s. Wise County remains under a burn ban. No outdoor burning is allowed.

NEARLY 700 VOTES CAST — The first day of early voting Tuesday saw 691 ballots cast in the March 3 primary election. That’s significantly higher than the 436 votes cast on the first day of early voting in the last midterm primary election in 2022. Early voting continues 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Decatur Conference Center (East Entrance) at 2010 U.S. 380; the Bridgeport ISD Alternative Learning Center at 1101 17th Street; Boyd Community Center at 420 E. Morton Ave.; and Alvord City Hall at 215 W. Elm.

BOIL WATER NOTICES — Due to a water main break Tuesday, all Runaway Bay water customers in Unit 2 are under a boil water notice. Also, due to repairs to a water line on McCanne Street in Newark Tuesday, all customers on McCanne Street are now under a boil water notice. All water should be boiled prior to human consumption.

GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS — Chico (20-15) saw its first postseason in 39 years end with a 41-28 loss to Honey Grove in a 2A Division II bi-district matchup Tuesday. VCA (14-12) suffered a 43-40 loss to Greenville Christian School in the second round of the TAPPS 2A playoffs.

BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS — VCA (26-6) survived a scare in its TAPPS 2A area rematch against Garland Christian School Tuesday, using a 13-10 overtime run to claim a 69-66 home win.

BOYS BASKETBALL RESULTS — Bridgeport (17-17, 7-7) forced a tie for fourth place in District 7-4A following a 77-55 home win over Decatur (9-21, 3-11) in the second Battle of Big Sandy rivalry game Tuesday. Paradise (31-2, 12-0) picked up its second straight 10-3A title with a 63-33 win over Valley View. Boyd (18-16, 5-7) fell to Ponder 63-47, finishing fifth in league play and missing the postseason. Slidell (27-6, 14-0) completed its second straight unblemished 13-2A title after handling Alvord (11-20, 2-12) 86-57 in a Wise County showdown. Chico (19-14) improved to 7-7 in district play thanks to a 63-43 win over Tioga.

BOYS SOCCER RESULTS — Decatur (11-0-2, 4-0) remains undefeated on the season and in District 4-4A play following a 2-0 shutout win over Burkburnett Tuesday. Bridgeport (12-3, 3-1) clinched its third league win by defeating Mineral Wells, 4-1.

GIRLS SOCCER RESULTS — Decatur (5-7) improved to 3-1 in District 4-4A action with a 2-1 victory against Burkburnett Tuesday. Bridgeport (3-10, 0-4) remains winless in league play after a 2-0 shutout loss to Mineral Wells.

SOFTBALL RESULTS — Paradise (5-0) erased a 4-run deficit late to remain unbeaten following an 8-7 win over Springtown Tuesday. Boyd (4-1) grabbed its fourth win of the season by routing Jacksboro, 9-1. Alvord (4-1) suffered its first defeat in a 9-1 loss to Graham. Bridgeport (0-6) dropped its sixth straight game to Valley View, 10-0.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TOUR — Decatur ISD will host a student-led public tour of McCarroll Middle School 10 to 11:15 a.m. today. The tour will provide information about the upcoming May 2 bond election, which includes the replacement of the middle school with a new school. Tours will also be held 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. March 2 and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 31. Information about the bond can be found at decaturisdbond.com.

MEDICARE CLASS — Learn about Medicare options from Anndra Mann 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Decatur Public Library.

CANDIDATE FORUM — Chico Chamber of Commerce will host a Candidate Forum 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chico Senior Citizen Center, 201 S. Buffalo St. Candidates who would represent Chico in the upcoming March 3 primary and May 2 general elections have been invited to participate.

SLIDELL ISD CONSIDERS 4-DAY SCHOOL WEEK — Slidell ISD will hold a Family Information Session 6 tonight at the secondary cafeteria for a discussion about the proposed four-day school week for the 2026/27 school year.

RESOURCE MARKET — Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth will bring its R.E.D. (Resources and Education Delivered) Market to Boyd Community Center 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. It will offer free access to fresh, healthy food and helpful community resources for families who may need a little extra support. SNAP, CHIP and Medicaid application assistance will be available on site.

GRAVESIDE service for Betty Jo Weeks, 79, of Alvord is 1 p.m. Thursday at Kleberg Cemetery in Dallas County with family visitation one hour prior at the cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins-Decatur.

FUNERAL for Virginia Hamm, 86, of Decatur is 1 p.m. Saturday at Victory Family Church with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins-Decatur.
