STORMS POSSIBLE TONIGHT — A line of storms is forecast to move through the area from west to east tonight, bringing the possibility of heavy rain, high winds and large hail. The National Weather Service is calling for a 60 percent chance of rain this evening, increasing to 100 percent overnight. Prior to the storms, it is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 85 and an overnight low of 63. Rain and storm chances will return Friday afternoon into Saturday.
BULLS CLAIM SECOND STRAIGHT REGIONAL TITLE — Bridgeport (20-3) will make its return to the 4A Division II State semifinals for the second consecutive season after shutting out Brownwood in the 4A Division II Region I final 3-0 Tuesday. Jared Contreras led the team with two goals, while Hector Chavez tacked on a solo score. The Bulls will face Region II champion Dallas Pinkston in the fifth round later this week. BOYS SOCCER RESULTS — Decatur (17-2-2) held a 2-0 lead at halftime, but fell victim to a 4-1 Lake Dallas run in the second half, ending the Eagles’ season with a 4-3 loss in the 4A Division I Region I final Tuesday. Junior Fernandez scored two goals to lead Decatur’s offense, while Tony Pacheco finished with one score.
BOYS STATE POWERLIFTING RESULTS — Paradise’s Beau Chenevert led Wise County’s lifters competing at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet March 27 at Abilene’s Taylor County Expo Center, lifting 1,575 pounds to place third in the 181 class. Boyd’s Brecken Gilley also competed at the Division 3 state meet, turning in a fifth-place performance in the 308 class with 1,770 pounds. Chico’s Karrington Ransom competed in the 308 class at the Division 4 state meet, lifting 1,700 pounds to finish fourth. Alvord’s top lifters were Carlos Hernandez (905 pounds) and Davis Kwasny (1,620 pounds), placing sixth in the 114 and 275 classes, respectively. Decatur brought back three medals from the Division 2 state meet. Israel Rueda (1,750 pounds) and Joe Finley (1,700 pounds) topped Decatur’s sheet, securing fourth-place medals in the 242 and 275 classes, respectively, while Caden Merrett lifted 1,685 pounds for fifth in the 275 class. SOFTBALL RESULTS — Lainey Cobb and Colbie McCarthy drove in four runs each, while Alivia Creasser allowed one hit, as Decatur (9-7) improved to 5-3 in District 7-4A following a 16-0 shutout win over Bridgeport (2-19, 1-7) to sweep the Battle of Big Sandy series. Bridgeport’s lone hit was a single by Matilyn Watters. Boyd (24-2) is 8-0 in 10-3A after collecting a 9-0 shutout win over Pilot Point. Gabby Salas was 3-for-5 with a 2-run home run and three RBIs, while Abby Atkinson recorded a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and three walks. Paradise (21-4-1, 6-2) routed Valley View 14-4, as Gabriella Handley smashed three hits and drove in two runs. Makayla Gresham struck out eight and allowed three hits, while Caleigh Chase and Cheyenne Bell combined for 11 RBIs to lead Alvord (11-6-2, 3-2) to a 25-0 10-2A first-round rivalry win over Chico (1-5, 0-4). Chico’s Jatelynd Gregg recorded two hits in the loss. VCA’s Embry Dillard drove in four runs and allowed just one hit with nine strikeouts in the circle en route to the Lady Patriots (6-2, 5-1) claiming their fifth TAPPS 2A District 2 win over Kennedale Fellowship Academy.
BASEBALL RESULTS — Cooper Cohoon smacked a 2-run home run to lead Decatur (13-6-1, 5-0) to an 11-5 District 7-4A Game 1 win over Burkburnett Tuesday. Bridgeport (7-13-1) improved to 2-3 in league play following a 5-4 victory against Castleberry in Game 1 thanks to Blake Morrow’s walk-off RBI single that scored Corbin Knox. In 10-3A, Boyd (20-2, 5-2) opened its series against Whitesboro with a 17-0 shutout win. Colton Patton finished 3-for-3 with six RBIs. Paradise (18-3) is 6-0 in district play following a pair of wins in a double-header against Valley View, 13-0 and 9-0. Madden Taylor drove in three runs in Game 1’s win, while Colton Walker and Kaden Hammonds combined to allow just two hits in Game 2. Alvord (13-6, 2-1) suffered its first 10-2A loss at the hands of Muenster, 5-2. Chico (1-11, 0-3) was blown out in Game 1 of its series against Nocona, 24-1. VCA (1-8) fell to 0-5 in TAPPS 2A District 2 with a 16-1 Game 1 loss to Bethesda Christian School.
EMERGENCY ALERT TEST — At the request of the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), a statewide test of emergency alert systems will occur between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Wise County will participate by sending a test notification through its Civic emergency alert system, according to the Wise County Office of Emergency Management. You may receive a test alert on your phone during this time. This is only a test. No emergency action is required.
