MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN FALL AT LOCAL BUSINESS — A man was critically injured after falling while hanging Christmas lights on a Decatur area business Monday afternoon. The patient, identified as an adult in his teens, was installing lights on the roof of a National Roper’s Supply (NRS) building before falling and landing on concrete. Wise County EMS and Decatur Fire Department responded to the accident in the 4000 block of U.S. 81/287, just outside of Decatur city limits around 4 p.m. The patient was flown to Medical City Denton by PHI Air Medical Air Med 10. He was in critical condition, said Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger.

JP1 MORROW TO RETIRE — Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow will retire at the start of the new year following 27 years as an elected official and a 40-year public service career. Morrow made the announcement at Monday’s county commissioners meeting. The position will be on next year’s primary ballot, and the filing period opens Nov. 8 and closes Dec. 8. County Judge J.D. Clark advised the court to wait for the filing period to close before considering any appointments for the unexpired term. Bill Hogg, who was formerly a Department of Public Safety trooper in Wise County as part of his 37-year law enforcement career, has announced his intention to run for the office. FOUR STABLE AFTER WRECK — Four people were transported to Medical City Decatur following a two-vehicle wreck between Paradise and Decatur Monday night. Wise County EMS Administrator Randall Preuninger said the wreck involving a white van and a Cadillac sedan occurred around 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Farm Road 51 and Farm Road 3259. “The sedan pulled out in front of the white van [which was] traveling south,” Preuninger said. “There was moderate damage to the van, and moderate damage to the driver door of the Cadillac. No extrication [was] needed.” The adult male driver of the van and three children inside the sedan were transported to the hospital in stable condition. The adult driver of the Cadillac refused medical treatment at the scene. Crews responding to the scene were EMS Rescue 1, Medics 1 and 5 and Decatur Fire Department.

VOLLEYBALL TIEBREAKER RESULTS — Decatur (36-7) will serve as the District 7-4A’s second seed in the 4A Division I playoffs after being swept by rival Springtown in a second-place tiebreaker Monday at Paradise High School — 25-19, 25-21, 25-19. Chico (13-23) will miss the playoffs for the first time in coach Susie Burt’s 6-year tenure following a loss to Poolville in a 9-2A win-or-go-home fourth-place battle at Bridgeport High School — 25-22, 25-17, 25-14.

EARLY VOTING PASSES 2,000 — With 413 ballots cast Monday, 2,144 people have now voted early in the Nov. 4 election. Early voting continues 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the four early voting locations: the Women’s Building at the Wise County Fairgrounds, 3101 S. Farm Road 51, Decatur; Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave.; and Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm.

WIND ADVISORY ISSUED — Strong winds will arrive with a cold front today and will continue through Wednesday according to the National Weather Service. A wind advisory is in effect for North Texas, including Wise County, from noon today through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Peak wind gusts are expected around 35 to 45 mph with sustained winds out of the northwest around 20 to 30 mph. The front will also bring cooler temperatures, with lows dropping into the 40s overnight. Breezy conditions will make it feel like temperatures are in the upper 30s Wednesday morning.

SPOOKTACULAR MOVED TO WEDNESDAY — Bridgeport Parks and Recreation’s Annual Spooktacular Fall Festival has been rescheduled to Wednesday. The event is 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgeport Community Center and will include inflatables, games, costume contest, candy and more. Call 940-683-3480.
