FATALITY VICTIM IDENTIFIED — The pedestrian victim of Thursday’s wreck near Rhome has been identified as Destiny Quintanilla, 19, of Grand Prairie. According to crash investigators, Quintanilla’s vehicle broke down on U.S. 81/287 in the northbound lanes near Ramhorn Hill Road. She was struck by a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 58-year-old Alan Schutt of Boyd. He was arrested for intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid involving death, both second degree felonies. Jail records show Schutt posted bond of $60,000 and was released Friday.

YELLOWJACKETS ADVANCE TO STATE SEMIFINALS — Boyd (33-5) clinched its second regional title in three years and punched its ticket to the state semifinals by sweeping New Diana with an 8-0 Game 2 win in the 3A Division II Region II final series May 23 at Dallas Baptist University’s Horner Ballpark. The Yellowjackets will face Wall — a rematch of the 2023 3A state championship game — in the state semifinals this week. Game 1 is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at Abilene Christian University. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) are slated for 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

RAIN REPORT — Weekend rain totals included 3.4 inches in Greenwood, 3.29 with pea sized hail in Alvord, 2.7 in Bridgeport and 2.28 in Decatur. Heavy rain on Monday led to some reports of brief flash flooding. Today should be partly sunny with a high around 78 degrees. Overnight, we’ll see a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.

WEST WISE ROAD CLOSED — According to Pct. 4 Commissioner Colby Shawn, County Road 3250 in the Paradise area is closed due to high water left from Monday evening’s rainfall. Seek alternate routes and use caution in the surrounding areas.

NORTHWEST GRADUATION DAY — Northwest High School will hold its graduation ceremony 2 p.m. today at the University of North Texas Coliseum.

FREE COMIC BOOK WEEK — Celebrate Free Comic Book Week with Decatur Public Library, in partnership with Grumpy’s Comics, this week. RHOME SUMMER READING — Rhome Community Library will hold its Summer Reading Program May 28 through July 30. A kick-off event will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Aurora Baptist Church. POOLS ARE OPEN — The Bridgeport City Pool opens today and be open 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday during the summer months. The Fit-N-Wise outdoor pool in Decatur opened Monday.

FUNERALS — No service is scheduled for Truman Whittington, 91, of Decatur. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for John “Johnny” Newton, 74, of Bridgeport is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

SERVICE for Richard Lee Perkins, 73, is 2 p.m. Friday.
