REGISTER TO VOTE BY THURSDAY — An important date is quickly approaching for those wanting to cast a ballot in the May city and school elections. The voter registration deadline for the May 2 election is 5 p.m. Thursday. This year’s ballot includes eight contested city council/mayor races (in Alvord, Bridgeport, Chico, Lake Bridgeport and Runaway Bay), four contested school board races (in Bridgeport and Decatur), a $137 million bond election for Decatur ISD voters and a directors election for Rolling V Ranch Water Control and Improvement District No. 1. BULLS TAKE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP — Colten Paradise led the Bridgeport Bulls golf team to another district championship after finishing first in the District 7-4A Tournament Monday, with Bridgeport taking up three of the top-five spots on the leaderboard. Paradise shot a 69 at Crosstimbers in Azle March 27, followed up with a final round 78 at Turtle Hill in Muenster March 30 to win the tournament. Bridgeport’s Ryle Cooper finished third after shooting 74-76 while individual 4A state champion Aiden Green finished fifth after carding a 75-79. Cooper Garrett finished 11th (80-83) to give the defending state champs an eight-stroke victory over the other regional qualifier, Krum. Decatur finished in sixth in the tournament.
BOYS PLAYOFF SOCCER — Bridgeport (19-3) will face Brownwood in a 4A Division II Region I final match 6 p.m. tonight at Stephenville High School’s Art Briles Stadium. Decatur (17-1-2) squares off with Lake Dallas in a 4AI Region I final showdown 7:30 p.m. at Argyle ISD Stadium.
BASEBALL — Decatur (12-6-1, 4-0) opens its District 7-4A series against Burkburnett 4 p.m. today at Burkburnett High School. Bridgeport (6-13-1) faces Castleberry in Game 1 of its league series 6:30 p.m. at home. In 10-3A, Boyd (19-2, 4-2) travels to face Whitesboro in Game 1 of its series at 7:30 p.m., while Paradise (16-3, 4-0) faces Valley View in a home double-header beginning at 5 p.m. Alvord (13-5) starts its 10-2A series against Muenster 7 p.m. at home. Chico (1-10, 0-2) hosts Nocona for Game 1 of its league series at 5 p.m. VCA (1-7, 0-4) continues searching for its first TAPPS 2A District 2 win in a home battle against Bethesda Christian School at 4 p.m.
SOFTBALL — Decatur (8-7, 4-3) returns home to host the second District 7-4A Battle of Big Sandy matchup against Bridgeport (2-18, 1-6) tonight at 6 p.m. Boyd (23-2, 7-0) faces Pilot Point in a 10-3A road clash, while Paradise (20-4-1, 5-2) welcomes Valley View for a league showdown. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m. In 10-2A, Alvord (10-6-2, 2-2) faces Chico (1-4, 0-3) in the teams’ first Battle of Texas 1655 rivalry matchup 5 p.m. at Chico High School. VCA (5-2, 4-1) takes on Kennedale Fellowship Academy in a TAPPS 2A District 2 battle 4:30 p.m. in Kennedale.
