OFFICER UNINJURED IN WRONG-WAY DRIVER CRASH — A Decatur Police officer escaped injury in a wrong-way driver collision Monday evening in the city. The wreck happened in the 800 block of U.S. 380 around 7:15 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 61-year-old Lisa Stout of Decatur, was injured. Decatur Police Chief Delvon Campbell said officer Josh Wilson was stopped at the red light when he saw a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox traveling west in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 380. “[Officer Wilson] turned on his emergency lights and siren to hopefully get Stout to stop. She continued westbound in the wrong lane. Other traffic was behind officer Wilson, so he turned his unit slightly sideways to keep others from being hit. Stout collided with the back ride side of Officer Wilson’s unit,” Campbell said. Wise County EMS took Stout by ground ambulance to Medical City Decatur hospital. Wise County Jail records show Stout was later arrested for driving while intoxicated-second offense.
