2 CRITICALLY HURT AT CONSTRUCTION SITE — Two men were flown to the hospital after falling approximately 30 feet from a boom lift at a construction site near Decatur Wednesday. The accident was reported around 8:40 a.m. in the 1700 block of Old Denton Road, just east of Decatur’s city limits. Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger said the men were working on a large metal building from a boom lift when the scaffolding attached to the lift fell while it was elevated. “The scaffolding fell off the lift while in the air,” Preuninger explained, estimating the height of the fall at 30 feet or more. PHI Air Medical 10 and Air Evac Lifeteam 68 flew the patients to Medical City Denton. They were both in critical condition. Wise County EMS, Decatur Fire Department, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the Wise County Fire Marshal worked the scene.

POWER RESTORED IN DOWNTOWN DECATUR — Homes, businesses and government offices in a large chunk of Decatur temporarily lost power Wednesday morning. Oncor Area Manager Sabrina Easley said the outage affected 1,650 customers and included all of Downtown Decatur and areas north. The outage happened around 8:40 a.m. Easley said all power was restored by 10:30 a.m. The outage was caused by a failed piece of equipment. “We will change it out as soon as we get a new one delivered,” Easley said. “It should not cause any additional outages.” The Wise County Messenger was among the businesses affected, which delayed delivery of Wednesday’s printed Update.
