FOOD ASSISTANCE RESOURCES — With the federal government shutdown dragging into a second month, many local residents experiencing food insecurity face added challenges. Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food assistance to qualifying low-income families, have not received payments this month. In Wise County, around 1 in 9 local households rely on SNAP funding. Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM), the largest food pantry in the county, has resources available on its website, warmtx.org, including a list of other area food banks and contact information. BRIDGEPORT MAIN STREET PICKS UP AWARDS — The Bridgeport Main Street Program picked up a couple of awards at the Texas Downtown Association’s annual awards dinner Tuesday. Brenda Morgan won the “Downtowner of the Year” for her commitment to the Bridgeport community. She was a founding member of the Main Street Board who helped the program become a Main Street Accredited City. Also, Baile de Bridgeport won “Best Promotion” for a city of 50,000 population or smaller. Baile de Bridgeport was a celebration of the rich cultural diversity in Bridgeport.

DECATUR BREAKS GROUND ON NEW FIRE STATION — The Decatur Fire Department marked the start of construction on Fire Station No. 2 with a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday. The new station, located at 222 S. Old Reunion Road, will improve response times for residents on the “other side” of U.S. 81/287, down South Farm Road 51. The 23,025-square-foot facility carries a guaranteed maximum cost of $15.9 million and is scheduled for completion in November 2026. PLAYOFF VOLLEYBALL — Decatur (38-7) faces Canyon West Plains in a 4A Division I Region I semifinal match 5 tonight at Childress High School. Boyd (32-9) battles Edgewood in the 3AII Region II semifinals 7 p.m. at Prosper Walnut Grove High School. Paradise (30-13) squares off against Troup in its 3AII third-round match 7 p.m. at Ferris High School. Northwest (26-12) will play a 6AII Region I semifinal contest against Flower Mound 6 p.m. at Haltom City’s Thomas Coliseum.

MZ CRAFT BEE — Thank-Mas, a special MZ Craft Bee for Thanksgiving and Christmas, is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Work on your own craft projects, play games, win prizes and enjoy lunch, which will be provided. Bring a snack to share. Bring a $5 gift card to any store or restaurant for a gift exchange. OFFICE CLOSURE — All New Fairview city hall and public works offices will be closed Friday for staff development. Normal business hours will resume on Monday. The offices will also be closed on Tuesday for Veterans Day.

MOVIE NIGHT IN THE PARK — The City of Aurora will host its Movie in the Park event Saturday at Aurora Ballpark. It will include a screening of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at approximately 6:30 p.m.

BLOOD DRIVE — Heritage Place of Decatur will host a Carter BloodCare blood drive 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at 605 W. Mulberry St. Visit wcmess.com/donate111025 to sign up for a time slot.

VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST — Bridgeport Medical Lodge, 2108 15th St., will host its annual Veterans Day Breakfast 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION EXPERIENCE — The Daughters of the American Revolution John B. Denton Chapter will host The American Revolution Experience 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 through 14 at Weatherford College Wise County. A ribbon cutting ceremony is 2 p.m. Monday. The exhibit invites visitors to consider the choices of ordinary people as tensions rose in the 1770s in the Thirteen Colonies in this interactive exhibit. Email registrarJBD@outlook.com.

LIBERTY HARVEST FEST — The Wise County Republican Party will host Liberty Harvest Fest 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Harwood Park in Bridgeport. The event will feature candidates in next March’s primary along with a pickleball and cornhole tournaments, kids activities, prizes, vendors, food trucks and music.

FUNERALS — Service for William Charles Baird, 83, of Alvord is 2 p.m. Saturday at Victory Church in Decatur. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Tommy Dickey, 65, of Boyd is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL service for Ernie Lovin Compton, 59, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst.
