FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT — Two rounds of heavy rain are in the forecast today, one this morning and another this afternoon and night. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches with isolated higher amounts of up to 4 inches are possible, according to the National Weather Service. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. A flood watch is in effect through 6 a.m. Friday. As of 7:45 a.m., rainfall totals included 0.53 of an inch in Decatur and 0.29 in Alvord.
WISE ELECTRIC MOVING TO BRIDGEPORT — Wise Electric Cooperative is moving its headquarters into the former home of BKV Barnett in Bridgeport. The project, registered last month with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), includes approximately $400,000 in renovations to the 58,317-square-foot building. Work is expected to be completed by Feb. 1, 2026. Wise Electric’s current office is at 1900 N. Trinity St. in Decatur.
NEW ESD SEEKS BOARD MEMBERS — The Wise County Commissioners Court has appointed a committee to interview and nominate five residents to serve on the Wise County Emergency Services District No. 4 board. ESD No. 4, which consists of the areas covered by Alvord, Chico, Crafton and Sand Flat Fire Departments, was established by voters in the Nov. 4 election. Qualified residents interested in being considered for this board may apply now at wcmess.com/esd4application. The deadline to apply is Dec. 12.
BAY CHURCH ANNIVERSARY — The Bay Church in Runaway Bay will celebrate its 50th anniversary 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday. The event will include an oral history, a slideshow of the past 50 years and small gifts for those who attend. Current and former members and visitors are invited.
PLAYOFF FOOTBALL — Paradise (10-1) takes on Dalhart in a 3A Division I area playoff battle 6:30 tonight at Childress High School’s Fair Park Stadium. Decatur (7-3) faces Paris in its 4AI second-round contest 7 p.m. at Denison High School’s Munson Stadium.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SENDOFFS — Boyd and Decatur volleyball teams will be celebrated with sendoff events prior to traveling to Garland’s Curtis Culwell Center for the UIL volleyball state championships today. Boyd’s sendoff is scheduled for noon at Boyd High School, while Decatur’s is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Decatur Square. The Lady Jackets (35-9) will face Clifton in the 3A Division II state final 1 p.m. Friday, followed by Decatur (41-7) versus La Vernia in the 4AI state final at 4 p.m.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Historical Society meets noon today at Grace Baptist Church in Decatur. Bring something for a pot luck lunch.
AMATEUR RADIO CLUB — The West Fork Amateur Radio Club (WFARC) meets 7 tonight at the Paradise Volunteer Fire Department. The presentation this month will be on “Fox Hunting” — how to locate hidden radio transmitters. All ham radio operators and anyone interested in learning about amateur radio are invited.
