CHICO ISD BEGINS SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH — The Chico ISD board of trustees officially took the first step of the district’s journey to hire its next superintendent last week. The district opened its application window for the top administrator job Friday, March 20, and will accept applications until 4 p.m. Thursday, April 9. Chico ISD has selected CCR Educational Consultants to guide its superintendent search. Spearheading the search for Chico’s next superintendent are two former Wise County superintendents — Dr. Arthur “Skip” Casey and Rod Townsend. After the application window closes, Chico ISD has interviews with candidates slated for Monday through Wednesday, April 20-22. The lone finalist is expected to be named May 6, and the proposed hiring date is May 28 after a state-mandated 21-day waiting period. Read more online here. The district also announced the hiring of Amy James as elementary school principal. James, a Wise County resident, currently serves in an administrative role at Denton ISD, according to the district.

FIRE DANGER REMAINS — The National Weather Service has issued an elevated fire warning for today, meaning the county’s burn ban is active. No outdoor burning is allowed. Today’s forecast calls for a high around 88 degrees with south winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph.

BOYD EASTER EGG HUNT — The City of Boyd Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday at RT Brooks Youth Sports Complex. It will include a visit from the Easter Bunny, candy and snacks, bounce houses, DJ with music and special prizes. The event will include more than 15,000 eggs. Egg hunts for ages 0-3 is 3:15 p.m.; 4-8 at 3:30 p.m. and 9 and above at 3:45 p.m.

EGGSTRAVAGANZA — Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host its annual Eggstravaganza spring carnival and egg hunt 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bridgeport Community Center and Lawdwin Ballfields. Egg hunt begins at 2. The event will also feature balloon animals, games and candy.

CHICO EASTER EGG HUNT — Chico Park Board will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt noon Saturday at the Chico High School practice field next to field house. Ages toddlers to high school.

NEW FAIRVIEW EASTER EGG HUNT — The city will host an Easter Egg Hunt 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Chacon Community Park. It will feature egg hunts for three age groups as well as bounce castles, hayride, petting zoo, breakfast, a coffee truck and photos with the Easter Bunny.

RHOME EASTER CELEBRATION — The city’s Easter Celebration is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Rhome Family Park. It will include an Easter egg hunt, food, bounce houses, face painting, bubble show, pet adoptions, raffles and prizes.

TRACK — Decatur and Bridgeport are competing at the Springtown Pojo Relays today. Boyd, Alvord and Slidell will participate in the Alvord Relays. Paradise will run at the Ponder Invitational, while Chico hosts the Chico Dragon Relays.

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION — First Financial Bank locations in Decatur, Boyd and Bridgeport will host customer appreciation 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday featuring refreshments.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Historical Society will meet noon today at Grace Baptist Church in Decatur. Shelby Hicks, executive director of Meals on Wheels, will be guest speaker. Some meals will be provided by Meals on Wheels, but members can bring their own lunch if preferred. Drinks and desserts will be provided.

CHAMPIONSHIP PARADE — Paradise ISD and the city will celebrate the 3A Division II state champion boys basketball team 6 to 7:30 tonight. A parade will begin at 6 on Main Street (same route as homecoming parade), and the celebration will continue 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Paradise High School Gym.

YOUTH FAIR RESULTS — The Wise County Youth Fair results special section is featured in this week’s Wise County Messenger on newsstands today.

FUNERALS — Graveside service for Suzanne Elizabeth Bennett, 76, of Decatur is 2 p.m. today at Oaklawn Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Jerry Lee Beck, 59, of Paradise is 11 a.m. Friday at Sycamore Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins-Decatur.

VISITATION for Loyd Ray Scaff, 85, of Decatur is 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Hawkins-Decatur.

SERVICE for Allen L. Arnold, 75, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for LaTonne Sewalt Enright, 87, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hawkins-Decatur.

FUNERAL for Henry Curtis Goodwin, 78, of Boyd is 1 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Springtown. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Luther “Luke” Amos Trammell, 54, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins-Boyd.

SERVICE for Cooper Bailey, 31; Jennifer Salazar Bailey, 29; and Hudson Bailey, 5; of Paradise is 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Hudson and Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

NO SERVICE is scheduled for James K. Smith, 73, of Boonsville. Hudson and Torres is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Pauline (Polly) Mantooth, 89, of Bridgeport is 2:30 p.m. Monday at Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel in Fort Worth. Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
