SOUTH WISE SEEKS PATH TO EAGLE MOUNTAIN — With Lake Bridgeport’s surface water committed and groundwater supplies increasingly strained, Wise County city officials are advancing talks to tap into Eagle Mountain Lake — an investment that could reshape the water future of the rapidly growing southeastern quadrant of the county. City officials have held meetings with the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD), which owns and operates both Eagle Mountain and Lake Bridgeport. As TRWD considers the decision, engineers are studying demand projections and drafting preliminary designs for infrastructure to potentially pump, transport, treat and deliver 5-6 million gallons per day of raw water from Eagle Mountain Lake to Wise County customers. The effort would be carried out through the formation of the West Fork Public Utility Agency (PUA) — a revamped regional approach to securing long-term water and wastewater resources for Wise County which resembles the previously failed Wise Regional Water District but avoids the requirement of legislative approval. The reservoir at the northern reaches of Tarrant County receives additional water supply from Cedar Creek Lake and Richland Chambers Lake via a massive pipeline that’s already online — a measure TRWD secured to help meet its growing demand in the area. While the Wise County effort would draw from Eagle Mountain Lake, the volume would be supplied from those lakes to the east, Boyd Mayor Rodney Holmes said. See full story at wcmessenger.com.
1 HURT IN WRECK INVOLVING UTV — A man suffered serious injuries after a UTV and a pickup truck collided in the Greenwood area Wednesday evening. The wreck was reported shortly after 6 p.m. near the intersection Farm Road 51 and Farm Road 1204, north of Decatur. The driver of the UTV was ejected from the side by side during the wreck, said Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger. The patient, who was elderly, was transported by ground ambulance to Medical City Denton. Due to the nature and number of injuries they sustained, first arriving crews requested a medical helicopter, but none were immediately available, with the closest an hour away, Preuninger said. The driver of the truck was also hurt. A second Wise County EMS ambulance transported them to Medical City Decatur in stable condition. Greenwood Slidell Fire Department also responded to the scene.
