1 KILLED IN SATURDAY WRECK — One person was killed in a single-vehicle rollover Saturday evening in the Greenwood area. The accident happened on Farm Road 455 at County Road 2840. According to Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger, the wreck involved one tractor-trailer that ran off of the road and overturned. The driver was then trapped after the wreck and later pronounced deceased after extrication efforts by first responders. The driver’s identity will be released by the Texas Department of Public Safety pending next of kin notification. Wise County EMS Rescue-1, Squad-1 and Medic-5 worked the scene along with Greenwood-Slidell VFD, Texas DPS and the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.

TRUCK DRIVER ARRESTED FOR MANSLAUGHTER — A Mississippi woman was arrested this month on a felony charge stemming from a fatal wreck near Alvord almost three years ago. Brittany Nicole Richardson, 26, of Bogue Chitto, Miss., was booked into the Wise County Jail Sept. 10 on a charge of manslaughter, a second degree felony offense. Jail records show she was released the following day on $20,000 bond. Richardson was the driver of a 2016 Kenworth truck towing a flatbed trailer that was struck by 80-year-old Jerry Robert Hipple of Arlington on U.S. 81/287 near Alvord Nov. 12, 2022. Crash investigators determined Richardson’s failure to yield right of way was the contributing factor in the wreck. Read more online here.

LOCAL SALES TAX RECORDS SMASHED — Wise County and several of its cities recorded new highs in sales tax revenue in fiscal year 2025. The Texas Comptroller’s September sales tax disbursement closed out the fiscal year strong. Bridgeport snapped a three-year declining revenue streak after eclipsing its previous record last month. Decatur and Rhome also set new highs, with the three cities continuing to drive Wise County’s economic engine. The increase in revenue can be credited to several factors, including population growth, new retail development, price increases and the lasting influence of online shopping.
