1 HURT IN CHICO WRECK — One person was seriously injured in a one-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon north of Chico. The wreck happened around 3:40 p.m. on Texas 101 near County Road 1782. Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger said a pickup ran off the road and rolled, striking a tree. The male driver, who was the only occupant, received serious injuries. Air Evac Lifeteam 68 responded to the scene and flew the patient to Medical City Denton. Texas 101 was shut down for a short time in order for the helicopter to land. Crafton Fire Department, Rescue 1, Squad 1 and Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.
FOOTBALL RESULTS — Bridgeport (1-4, 0-1) started District 3-4A Division II play with a 49-28 home loss to Mineral Wells Friday. Boyd (3-3) dropped to 0-2 in 4-3AI following a 44-14 loss to Vernon. Paradise (6-1) defeated Iowa Park 43-7 to improve to 3-0 in 4-3AI. Alvord (5-2, 3-0) outlasted Tom Bean in a 6-2AI matchup, 49-42. Chico (1-4, 0-1) fell to Collinsville 42-7 in its 8-2AII opener. Northwest (2-4, 1-3) suffered its third league loss after being upset by Keller Central on homecoming night, 37-17.
VOLLEYBALL RESULTS — Decatur (34-5) climbed to 8-2 in District 7-4A after sweeping Bridgeport (9-25, 1-9) in the second Battle of Big Sandy rivalry match Friday — 25-8, 25-9, 25-9. In 10-3A, Boyd (26-9, 8-0) easily picked up its eighth league win with a sweep against Valley View — 25-12, 25-13, 25-12. Paradise (24-11, 5-3) was swept by Ponder in a pivotal league matchup —25-21, 25-18, 25-16. Alvord (18-16, 4-2) outlasted Poolville in a 9-2A 5-set bout —23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 18-25, 15-6. Chico (12-19, 2-4) picked up its second league win by beating Lipan in four sets — 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16. Northwest (22-10, 9-3) swept L.D. Bell — 25-5, 25-11, 25-13 — for its ninth 4-6A win.
