FIRE DESTROYS ALVORD BUSINESS — An Alvord business suffered extensive damage as several Wise County fire departments battled flames and the sweltering heat Saturday. Alvord Fire Chief Heather Redder said the blaze started at about 1 p.m. at Chancellor Lynn Paint and Body Shop near the 1400 block of U.S. 81/287 east bypass road. The fire was extinguished about 45 minutes later. No injuries were reported. Redder said the large amount of automobile parts surrounding the business were a concern for firefighters attacking the fire. Local fire departments assisting at the scene included Chico, Decatur and Sunset, along with the Wise County Fire Marshal’s Office and Wise County EMS. The blaze caused the closure of U.S. 81/287 east bypass near Dollar General, as well as nearby Franklin Street. Read more online here.
