POWER OUTAGE IN BOYD — A power outage in Boyd caused a one-hour delay for Boyd ISD Monday morning. Oncor Area Manager Sabrina Easley said around 3:30 Monday morning, a feeder line that serves Boyd went out, affecting 1,775 customers in the southern part of Wise County. “When the trouble man arrived he found a wire down along East Rock Island,” Easley said at 8 a.m. “We aren’t sure what caused it. Crews were brought in to make repairs. We were able to get lights on to the middle and high schools and still working on the elementary. It looks like we have about 400 customers remaining out.” Boyd ISD announced that school will start on a one-hour delay today to allow for later arrivals by non-bus students. Buses ran on regular schedule.

VOLLEYBALL RESULTS — Decatur (14-2) claimed a share of the silver title at the Glen Rose tournament last weekend with a 7-2 run. The Lady Eagles defeated Salado (25-21, 18-25, 16-14), Liberty Hill (25-12, 25-14), Crowley (25-8, 25-18), Canyon Randall (25-16, 25-20), Jewett Leon (22-25, 25-15, 15-13), Glen Rose (25-16, 25-20) and Monahans (25-20, 25-20), and suffered losses to Boyd (22-25, 25-22, 17-16) and Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (25-23, 25-15). Boyd (11-6) went 4-4 at the Glen Rose tournament, beating Decatur, Lorena (25-16, 25-17), Springtown (23-25, 25-18, 15-12) and Grandview (25-16, 19-25, 15-11), and falling to Liberty Hill (25-22, 25-18), Salado (25-20, 16-25, 15-11), Tolar (25-22, 15-25, 15-12), Liberty Hill (25-15, 25-20) and Canyon West Plains (25-21, 18-25, 15-11). Bridgeport (4-11) was 1-3 at the Haltom tournament with a win over Trimble Tech (21-25, 26-24, 25-16) and losses to Arlington Heights (25-9, 25-12), Haltom (25-15, 25-18), and Brewer (25-17, 25-10). The Sissies also added a 4-set win over Western Hills Friday, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20. Paradise (12-7) finished second at the Graham tournament with a 6-2 record. The Lady Panthers defeated Llano (22-25, 25-11, 25-15), City View (25-11, 25-9), Breckenridge (25-11, 25-14), Fairfield (14-25, 25-20, 25-22), Fort Worth Christian (25-18, 25-16), and Windthorst (25-14, 25-20), and lost to Llano (19-25, 26-24, 25-21) and Shallowater (25-17, 25-14). Alvord (3-8) was winless at the Ponder tournament, losing to Waco Robinson (25-14, 25-21), Sunnyvale (25-11, 25-8), Godley (score unavailable), Ponder (25-12, 25-8) and Lindsay (25-15, 25-14). The Lady Bulldogs also suffered 5-set loss to Christ Academy Friday (score not available). Chico (4-3) recorded a 3-2 mark at the Eastland tournament. The Lady Bulldogs beat De Leon (25-16, 25-13), Rising Star (25-8, 20-25, 15-10) and Albany (25-18, 25-17), and fell to Eastland (25-19, 9-25, 17-15) and Strawn (26-24, 16-25, 15-13). Northwest (11-6) was 2-5 at the NISD tournament, with wins over Austin Vandergrift (25-15, 26-28, 25-19) and Boswell (25-19, 25-15), and defeats against Walnut Grove (21-25, 26-24, 25-16), Grand Oaks (25-14, 25-18), Hebron (21-25, 25-23, 25-23), Rockwell (25-21, 25-15) and McKinney (25-15, 25-21). VCA (10-6-2) brought home a 4-3 run form the Poolville tournament with victories against Henrietta Midway (25-14, 25-10), Petrolia (25-12, 25-16), Garner (25-11, 26-24), and Perrin-Whitt (25-21, 25-17), and losses to Poolville (25-18, 25-22), Collinsville (25-20, 25-18) and Poolville (25-16, 25-17). The Lady Patriots picked up a sweep against Forestburg Friday, 25-13, 25-9, 25-6.

BOYD ISD ADOPTS TAX RATE, BUDGET — Boyd ISD’s tax rate for Fiscal Year 2025-26 will remain unchanged after trustees approved keeping the rate at 89.42 cents per $100 valuation during a special meeting Monday. Of the amount, 66.92 cents will be used for maintenance and operation, while the remaining 22.5 cents will be earmarked for interest and sinking to pay bonded debt. According to the district, the average home value within Boyd ISD’s boundaries is currently valued at $337,893, representing a $24,308 increase from FY 2024-25. By keeping the tax rate the same, taxpayers with a $140,000 homestead exemption — an anticipated increase of $40,000 if Proposition 13 is approved by voters in the November election— are slated to pay $1,769,56 on an average-valued residence, which is $140.32 less than last year’s average of $1,909.88. Boyd ISD will operate under a deficit budget for FY 2025-26 The district’s deficit is $194,010.20, with $20,892,345 in projected revenue and $21,086,355.20 in expected expenditures. Board members also approved increasing the district’s transportation budget by $160,000 from general fund to cover expenses.

MEMORIAL service for Paul Lambert Jr., 93, of Paradise is 11 a.m. Sept. 3 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at 3:15 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
