MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN SUNDAY WRECK — A man suffered critical injuries in a 2-vehicle wreck near Rhome early Sunday morning. The wreck involving a sedan and a parked 18-wheeler occurred at about 1 a.m. at the intersection of Texas 114 and Iron Horse Court. According to Wise County EMS Administrator Randall Preuninger, the sedan left the roadway and struck the tractor trailer in a parking lot. Preuninger said emergency responders performed an “extended extrication” to remove the man from the wreckage. The man was transported via ground ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. A medical helicopter was placed on standby but was unable to fly due to weather. Wise County Medic 4, Rescue 1, Squad 1 and Rhome Fire Department responded to the scene.

HORNER TRIAL ENTERS SECOND WEEK — The capital murder trial of Tanner Horner continues this morning in Tarrant County. On Friday, investigators testified about collecting evidence from the delivery van Horner was driving at the time of 7-year-old Athena Strand’s disappearance from her Cottondale home and evidence such as clothes Horner was wearing at the time of his arrest. RAIN REPORT — Rainfall totals from the weekend included 0.35 of an inch in Decatur. After a partly sunny day with a high near 85, we’ll see a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms overnight with increasing chances of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

BASEBALL RESULTS — Decatur (16-6-1) improved to 8-0 in District 7-4A after sweeping Bridgeport (8-15-1, 3-5) in the Battle of Big Sandy rivalry series with a 15-0 shutout road win Friday. Paradise (21-3, 8-0) also remains unbeaten in league play following a 12-0 10-3A victory over Pilot Point. Alvord (15-7, 4-2) claimed its fourth 10-2A win and second league series sweep by defeating Era, 15-0. Chico (1-14) suffered a 15-1 loss to Lindsay, dropping the Dragons to 0-6 in the district standings. VCA (2-9, 1-7) earned its first TAPPS 2A District 2 victory by knocking off Mercy Culture Prep 3-1 in Game 2 of the teams’ series. On Saturday, Boyd (22-2, 6-2) returned to the field to grab a 10-0 shutout win over 3A No. 10 Iowa Park. Paradise earned a 6-2 non-district win against Springtown.

SOFTBALL RESULTS — Decatur (10-8) fell to 6-4 in the District 7-4A standings following a 7-1 loss to Eagle Mountain Friday. Bridgeport (2-22, 1-10) suffered a 16-0 league shutout to Burkburnett. In 10-3A, Boyd (26-2, 10-0) and Paradise (24-4-1, 8-2) came away with wins, as the Lady Jackets claimed an 11-0 shutout win over Valley View, and the Lady Panthers took revenge against Whitesboro with a 5-4 victory. Alvord (12-8-2, 4-4) climbed to .500 in 10-2A play after shutting out Nocona, 14-0.

ALVORD TO CONSIDER LONE FINALIST FOR SUPERINTENDENT — The Alvord School Board could name the district’s next superintendent tonight. Trustees are set to meet at 6 p.m. with the sole possible action item listed as a closed session discussion and possible action regarding the lone finalist for the superintendent of schools position. If the board votes to name a lone finalist, state law requires a 21-day waiting period before the hire can be finalized. The position opened in February after Dr. Randy Brown, Alvord ISD’s longtime superintendent, announced his plans to retire after 34 years in education. The meeting will be held at the Alvord ISD Administration Building, 185 Mosley Lane.

WISE REPUBLICAN WOMEN MEETING — Wise Republican Women will meet 6 tonight in the JP2 Courtroom at the Wise County Law Enforcement Center. Deon Starnes will present “From the Grassroots Up,” a presentation on how the GOP is structured and the impact the various levels of the organization has on the local level. HEALING STRONG MEETING — The next Healing Strong Wise County meeting is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at 203 W. Walnut in Decatur. Guest speaker will be cancer survivor James Templeton, founder of Uni Key Health Systems and the Templeton Wellness Foundation. HealingStrong is a non-profit whose mission is to connect, support and educate individuals facing cancer and other diseases through strategies that help to rebuild the body, renew the soul, and refresh the spirit.

BOYS REGIONAL GOLF — Bridgeport’s Colten Paradise, Ryle Cooper, Aiden Green, Cooper Garrett and Cooper Lawson tee-off at the 4A Region I tournament beginning today at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. Paradise’s Levi Clayton, Cooper Meyers, Will Moffett, Collin Euler and Maverick Gentry are competing at the 3A Region II championships beginning today at Bullard’s Oak Hurst Golf Course. Alvord’s Jeremy Watson, Rhett Richey, Blake Davis, AJ Walker and Gage Ruddick, along with Slidell’s Riddik Davis, will compete at the 2A Region II tournament beginning today at the Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris.

SOFTBALL — Boyd hosts Ponder in a District 10-3A showdown tonight at 5 p.m. Paradise squares off against Pilot Point in a league matchup 6 p.m. at Pilot Point High School. VCA (8-3, 6-2) welcomes Kennedale Fellowship Academy for a TAPPS 2A District 2 bout at 4 p.m.

FUNERALS — Service for Lonnie Hobbs, 83, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at West Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Judy Chandler, 67, of Newark is noon Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hudson & Torres.

FUNERAL for Carolyn Thompson, 86, of Weatherford is 1 p.m. Saturday at Hudson & Torres with burial at Chico Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
