WILLIAMS CHOSEN FOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM — Decatur’s Taylor Williams is one of 17 superintendents in the state to be selected to an 18-month leadership program provided by the Holdsworth Center. The nonprofit organization brings together leaders from across the state to its campus on Lake Austin to support and develop leaders in public education. Williams was chosen for the organization’s Superintendent Leadership Program, which is designed to provide current superintendents with world-class professional development, executive coaching and a strong peer network, according to a news release from Decatur ISD. The program focuses on strengthening skills in areas such as communication, board relations and building strong, dynamic teams. She will begin the program’s next cohort during the fall semester. FOOTBALL RESULTS — Decatur (4-2, 3-0) broke a nearly 21-year team scoring record by blowing out Diamond Hill-Jarvis 91-8 in a District 5-4A Division I road victory Thursday. VCA (3-3, 0-1) started TAPPS 6-Man Division II District 2 play with a 46-0 shutout home loss to Prestonwood Christian Academy-North.

OFFICE CLOSURE — New Fairview City Hall and Public Works will be closed today for staff development. Offices will reopen at normal business hours Monday.

SALSA SHOWDOWN — Wise County’s biggest salsa competition returns Saturday at The County Seat in Decatur featuring a $500 grand prize for the winning salsa. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the event will also showcase live music from popular local norteña group La Gavilla de Durango, along with a variety of specialty food and drink items. FOOTBALL — Bridgeport (1-3) opens District 3-4A Division II action against Mineral Wells 7 tonight at Bull Memorial Stadium. Boyd (3-2, 0-1) returns to 4-3AI action with a road clash against Vernon 7 p.m. at Lion Stadium. Paradise (5-1, 2-0) squares off against Iowa Park 7 p.m. at Hawk Stadium. Alvord (4-2, 2-0) welcomes Tom Bean to Bulldog Stadium for a 6-2AI showdown at 7 p.m. Chico (1-3) starts its 8-2AII schedule against Collinsville 7 p.m. at W.L. Stephenson Sports Complex. Northwest (2-3, 1-2) hosts Keller Central for a 4-6A homecoming battle 7 p.m. at Northwest ISD Stadium.

VOLLEYBALL — Decatur (33-5, 7-2) takes on Bridgeport (9-24, 1-8) in the District 7-4A Battle of Big Sandy series finale 4:30 p.m. today at Decatur High School. In 10-3A, Boyd (25-9, 7-0) travels to face Valley View, while Paradise (24-10, 5-2) hosts a pivotal league match against Ponder. Both matches are slated for 4:30 p.m. starts. Alvord (17-16, 3-2) starts the second half of 9-2A action with a battle against Poolville 4:30 p.m. at Poolville High School. Chico (11-19, 1-4) will rematch Lipan to start its second round 4:30 p.m. at home. Northwest (21-10, 8-3) hosts a 4-6A showdown against L.D. Bell at 5:30 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY — VCA will run at the Lake Cities Brad Lutz Invitational Saturday at The Buff in Haltom City.

GREENWOOD FALL FESTIVAL — The Greenwood Fall Festival is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Downtown Greenwood. The parade is at 10.
