MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAMS — Two local veteran groups will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country at Memorial Day programs. The Wise County Veterans Group will present a Memorial Day Program 11 a.m. Monday at the Wise County Veterans Park, 405 N. Trinity St. in Decatur. Wise County Judge J.D. Clark will be keynote speaker. Rhome Veterans will also host a Memorial Day event 11 a.m. Saturday at Rhome Veterans Park, 100 Virginia Ln. Rhome Veterans Commander Deborah BeCraft said there will be several speakers and music to honor fallen military heroes.
LAST DAY TO VOTE EARLY — Early voting for Tuesday’s Republican Primary runoff election ends today. Yesterday, 1,047 votes were cast. Voting continues 7 a.m.-7 p.m. today at the four early voting locations: Wise County Fairgrounds (Women’s Building) in Decatur, Alvord City Hall, Boyd Community Center, and Bridgeport Community Center.
PLAYOFF BASEBALL RESULTS — Behind a 3-for-3 performance with four RBIs from Eric Rogers and a one-hit performance by Elijah Webber, Boyd (34-4-1) claimed an 11-1 win in Game 1 of the team’s 3A Region II semifinal series against Big Sandy Harmony Thursday. Game 2 is slated for 11 a.m. today at North Forney High School. If necessary, a tiebreaker will be played 6 p.m. Saturday. Read Game 1’s recap online here.
BOYD, PARADISE, CHICO, ALVORD GRADUATION DAY — Four Wise County schools will hold graduation ceremonies tonight. Boyd’s graduation is at 7 at Yellowjacket Stadium. Paradise’s graduation is at 8 at Panther Field. Chico’s graduation is at 7 in the Chico High School Gymnasium. Alvord will hold graduation at 7 in the Alvord High School Gymnasium.
NORTHWEST GRADUATES TUESDAY — Northwest High School will hold graduation at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the University of North Texas Coliseum in Denton.
WARMING INTO THE WEEKEND — Temperatures today through Sunday are expected to top out in the low- to mid-90s each day. While today’s high is forecast to be around 92, heat index values could reach as high as 101. We have a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon with 30 percent chance of storms on Saturday afternoon. Some storms could be severe.
BLOOD DRIVE — Medical City Decatur will hold a Carter BloodCare blood drive 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday. The Carter BloodCare Bus will be at the hospital’s main entrance, 609 Medical Center Drive. Community members may sign up to donate at wcmess.com/mayblooddrive.
HOLIDAY CLOSING — Wise County Environmental Services (formerly Public Works), Decatur dumpsite, and 911 Addressing will be closed Monday. The other dumpsites (Boyd and Cottondale) will close their following business day Wednesday. Hours and locations are on the county webpage, wisecountytx.gov.
