TRUCK CRASHES THROUGH DOWNTOWN DECATUR SHOP — A parking mishap led to a truck crashing into a nearly 100-year-old Downtown Decatur barbershop Thursday night. The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. after a 2022 GMC Sierra, driven by Wayne Davie, 73, of Decatur, struck Robert’s Barbershop. “Mr. Davie, while pulling into the parking space, hit the gas instead of the brake and crashed into the building,” Decatur Police Chief Delvon Campbell said. The building at 102 N. Trinity St. has been a barbershop since 1926. There were no injuries reported. The barbershop, operated by longtime barber Robert Vera, was covered in tarps after the crash. Vera, a stomach cancer survivor and military veteran, has been cutting hair for more than 50 years. After starting his career in McAllen, he took over the space and established the shop in 2005.
