NETWORK OF SENSORS AIDS LOCAL FLOOD RESPONSE — As Texas reels from one of the deadliest floods in its history, Wise County officials are turning to technology to better respond to flooding and its fallout. The county recently launched the first phase of a flood monitoring system aimed at giving officials immediate access to water level and road condition data. High-tech sensors installed at low-water crossings throughout the county are already helping the Wise County Office of Emergency Management track conditions in real time. Wise County Emergency Management Coordinator Cody Powell, who is leading the project, said the technology can buy officials time, especially in fast-moving events like flash floods. HOSPITAL OFFERS SECURE MEDICATION DROP BOX — Medical City Decatur has installed a secure medication drop box to give the public a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired drugs. The drop box, located in the hospital’s main lobby, accepts most prescription and over-the-counter medications. It is part of Medical City Healthcare’s and HCA Healthcare’s “Crush the Crisis” program, a year-round initiative aimed at reducing drug misuse and supporting safe disposal practices. WEEKEND RAIN CHANCES — Wise County has a good chance of seeing rain over the weekend. The forecast includes a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, with rain chances increasing to 50 percent Saturday night and 60 percent Sunday.

DAV INFORMATION SESSION — DAV Chapter and Auxiliary 70 will host a Member Information Session, open to all new and existing members, 10 a.m. Saturday at the DAV Chapter and Auxiliary office, 2801 S. FM 51 in Decatur. No RSVP required. Light breakfast will be served.

MUSEUM ANNOUNCES NEW HOURS — The Wise History Museum and Gift Shop on the Decatur Square is now open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY — The Decatur Cares Mobile Pantry is Saturday. Food will be distributed 7:30-9 a.m. Cars can lineup in the First United Methodist Church east parking area before 7 a.m. There will be produce and protein items for 225 families. COMMUNITY RECEPTION — Greater Runaway Bay Alliance will host a community reception to honor former Runaway Bay Mayor Robert Ryan and his wife J’Lyn 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Norma Coble Civic Center. Those attending may wish to bring cards or letters of appreciation for their many years of volunteer service.

CLEAN UP EVENT — New Fairview will host a free “Chunk Your Junk” event 8 a.m. to noon (or until containers are full) Saturday at city hall. You must bring proof of residency. Tires, any appliances with freon and liquids such as oil and paints are not accepted.
