WARM WEEKEND AHEAD — Winter has decided to take a bit of a break over the next few days as highs could reach close to 80. It’s quite a change from a week ago when we were still dealing with lingering issues from an ice storm. Today’s high is expected to be around 78 degrees under sunny skies with an overnight low of 42. It will be a little cooler on Saturday with a high near 68 and a low near 50. But we’ll rebound on Sunday with predicted highs in the mid-70s. Rain chances will return early next week, but high temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-70s Monday and Tuesday.
BOYS BASKETBALL RESULTS — VCA (23-6, 11-1) clinched the TAPPS 2A District 2 title following a 56-46 win over Sacred Heart Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL RESULTS — VCA (11-11, 9-3) suffered a 35-29 loss to Sacred Heart in a TAPPS 2A District 2 showdown Thursday.

In 10-3A, Paradise (27-2, 8-0) hosts a league matchup against Pilot Point at 7:30 p.m. Boyd (16-14, 3-5) will take on Valley View 7:30 p.m. at Valley View High School. Slidell (23-6, 10-0) looks to remain unbeaten in 13-2A, as the Hounds host Era at 8 p.m. Alvord (10-17, 1-9) will try to snap a 9-game district losing streak in a road battle against Collinsville at 8 p.m. Chico (17-12, 5-5) looks to climb above .500 in the league standings, facing Muenster 8 p.m. at Muenster High School. DINNER AND AUCTION — Boyd Area Buyers Association will host its annual Jimmy Ware Dinner and Auction 6 p.m. Saturday at Boyd High School. The event supports the association and Boyd students and their FFA, FCCLA and 4-H projects.
ROAD CLOSURE — The Texas Department of Transportation has notified the City of Boyd that Farm Road 730 North will be closed from North Wilson to County Road 4460 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday to complete necessary road improvements that cannot be accomplished during heavy traffic hours. Plan for an alternate route during this time.
DECATUR CARES — Decatur Cares Mobile Food Pantry is 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Decatur. Registration begins 7 a.m. in the east parking lot. Fruit, vegetables, protein items and other food for 225 families will be distributed. Volunteers are needed 7 to 9:30 a.m. for setup, distribution of food and cleanup.
