Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) announced the temporary closure of Lake Bridgeport in Wise County to all recreational boating activities beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.
The decision to close the lake is in response to ongoing concerns about high water levels and potential shoreline damage, according to the TRWD press release. The district explained that the closure will help safeguard both public and private property around the lake and minimize the risk of further erosion or structural damage caused by wakes and large waves.
The lake remains safe for viewing and limited shoreline use, but TRWD said the use of motorized and non-motorized watercraft is not permitted until further notice. Wise County Park boat ramps, swimming area, and day use recreation areas were also closed Wednesday due to the lake level. Camping facilities still remain open.
“We understand this may be disappointing for those who enjoy time on the water,” said David Geary, Director of Reservoir Operations, in the Wednesday press release. “However, protecting our shoreline properties and ensuring long-term access and safety for all lake users is our top priority.”
Watercraft or persons found upon the waters of District lakes, reservoirs or other waters during times of restriction, without prior consent of the District or by virtue of other lawful reason, shall be guilty of trespassing under Article I, Section 38 of the General Ordinance of Tarrant Regional Water District.
Updates will be provided on TRWD’s website at Tarrant Regional Water District and through its official social media channels. Residents and visitors are encouraged to respect the temporary closure and report any unauthorized boating activity to the Tarrant Regional Water District Communications Center at 817-720-4584.
Residents who live on or own shoreline property at Lake Bridgeport can reach TRWD’s Flood Team at 817-720-4296.
