When Northwest took a three-score lead against L.D. Bell, only to watch it nearly disappear in the fourth quarter, late game woe from the Texans’ previous heartbreaks this season began to rear its ugly head.

But there was no “here we go again” Friday night because the Texans defense made sure of it, delivering a series of clutch stops in Northwest’s 19-17 win over previously unbeaten L.D. Bell.

Northwest (2-3, 1-2) rejected L.D. Bell’s two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game at 19-19 in the fourth. With seconds left, Northwest defensive back Brady Taylor came down with his second interception of the night to seal the big win.

The Texans defense forced three turnovers and held the Raiders to 215 total yards.

Northwest running back Caris Sela added 138 yards and a touchdown to blow past the 1,000-yard mark through just five games. Quarterback Mark Hartman completed 14 of 23 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Northwest (2-3, 1-2) will face Keller Central (3-3, 1-3). Northwest Eaton defeated Central Keller 34-31 this week.

Alvord shuts down Trenton

The Alvord Bulldogs did not give up an inch — in fact, it pushed Trenton back three yards — in a 49-0 District 6-2A Division I rout Friday night.

Alvord’s defense smothered Trenton. The Tigers finished with negative 10 yards rushing, and the Bulldogs defense only surrendered seven yards passing to keep Trenton’s total offensive output in the red.

Meanwhile, Alvord ran for 303 yards and seven touchdowns in the victory. Five different ball carriers found the end zone.

Bulldogs running back Kamper Barnes led the team in yards, with just three attempts leading to two touchdowns and 90 yards. Cutter Hamilton (2 touchdowns), Zane Fuentes, Drew Staley and Rhett Richey scored in the win.

Alvord quarterback Dalton George completed 7 of 12 passes for 104 yards. Brayden Clark led the team with 52 yards receiving.

Alvord (4-2, 2-0) will host Tom Bean (6-0, 2-0) next week.
