Tarrant charges Horner with child sex crime

WISE COUNTY

Three charges of sexual assault of a child have been added to Tanner Lynn Horner, the man arrested for the murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand. The three charges are out of Tarrant County and appear to be unrelated to the Strand case.

According to Wise County Jail records, the three Tarrant County charges were added Tuesday, with $15,000 bond set for each charge. Horner, 31, also remains jailed on Wise County charges of capital murder of a child under age 10 ($1 million bond) and aggravated kid- napping ($500,000).

Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin confirmed that the three sexual assault of a child charges are unrelated to the Strand case.

Because the charges were filed out of Tarrant County, it is likely the alleged offenses took place in Tarrant

County. The Dallas Morning News, citing Tarrant County court records, reported that the new charges were for alleged offenses that took place in 2013.

Horner was arrested Dec. 2 after telling officers he killed Strand after accidentally striking her with his FedEx delivery truck at the family’s home near Cottondale Nov. 30 and was afraid she would tell her father, according to the arrest affidavit in the case.

Horner directed law enforcement to the location of Strand’s body, which was found southeast of Boyd Dec. 2.

Akin said the sheriff ’s office is still waiting on the full autopsy report in the case.
