Steve Warner, 69, of Decatur, passed from this earth on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Denton.
Steve was born on Nov. 14, 1956, in Ardmore, Okla., to Edgar Perry and Lola Faye (Vernon) Warner. He spent his early years growing up in Aledo, and Las Vegas, Nev., before eventually moving to Decatur, where he graduated from high school in 1974.
Not long after graduation, Steve discovered his passion and began what would become a lifelong career as a heavy equipment operator. For decades, he quite literally helped shape the land across this nation, moving earth with a skill that seemed to come naturally to him. It was often said there wasn’t a machine made that Steve couldn’t run. Later in life, he returned to Wise County, where he spent his final years of operating working for Sandford Ranch & Cattle before fully retiring.
Steve was a beloved son, father, Pappy, brother, uncle, cousin, and a true friend to many. His easygoing nature, sense of humor, and loyalty made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Perry Warner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amber Kirbie and husband, Mark of Paradise; his sons, Curtis Warner and wife, Jamie of Buena Vista, Colo., and Jacob Warner of Decatur; and six grandchildren, Mariah and Maci Kirbie, Jakob and Addy Warner, and Pearl and Waylon Warner; his mother, Lola Warner of Decatur; his sister, Judy Stutt of Decatur; the mother of his children, Karen Decker of Decatur; nephews, Fred Jones and wife, Dana of Runaway Bay, and Ben Decker and Kayla of Colorado Springs, Colo.; niece, Jessie Evans and husband Chad, of Comanche; along with great-nephews, Brody Jones and wife, Ashlynn of Rockport, Brac Jones, Bowen Jones and Weston Evans; great-niece, Avery Evans; and extended family and countless friends.
Steve will always be remembered for his dark sunglasses, his pearl-snap shirts, his cherished white Ford, and his laid-back, life-of-the-party ECMF personality. He lived life his own way, and those who knew him wouldn’t have had it any other way.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling him family and friend.
