A scorching performance behind the 3-point arc propelled the Bridgeport Sissies to a first-round playoff win and a new program record Monday night.
The Sissies (24-12) caught fire early and bombarded Fort Worth Dunbar for a team best 19 made 3-pointers, leading Bridgeport to a 90-23 4A Division II bi-district rout at Azle High School.
Following their run to the top of 4A in made 3-pointers in the 2024-25 campaign (281), the Sissies have already eclipsed last year’s total. Bridgeport currently sits at 332 deep buckets this season.
“Our girls have been shooting the ball well in the last few games, and they’ve been sharing it,” Bridgeport coach Darryn Shearmire said. “It’s really tough for us to share it when we’ve got four girls who can go off from 3-point range at any time, but it’s about getting the credit for the assist… Growing up like I did, we didn’t have a 3-point line. I would have pulled up and shot a 3 instead of a layup. We try not to overemphasize that, but our shooters want to compete, and they take pride in that. Sometimes I want to pull the reins, but you’ve got to let shooters shoot.”
Bridgeport guards Charlotte Moore and Brooke Case helped set the tone early. The duo knocked down one deep shot each to push Bridgeport to a 6-2 lead in the opening minute of the contest. Moore buried four deep buckets in the first quarter, while she and Case scored 13 points each in the first 8 minutes to fuel the Sissies’ 30-2 opening statement.

“We’re a smaller team, and us being able to hit those 3-pointers outside of the paint really helps our offense,” Moore said. “We’re not as tall as a lot of other teams, so it’s harder for us to get to the basket. When we get that one extra pass and hit a 3, it’s just a great feeling to get everyone involved.”
Junior guard Presley Radke got in the action in the second quarter after a scoreless first frame, hitting two 3-point shots and scoring 10 points as Bridgeport used its transition game to turn defense into offense on a 16-7 run. The Sissies’ success from Depp range allowed Bridgeport to take a 46-9 lead at halftime.
“Transition is huge, and Coach Shearmire always pushes us to make defense our best offense,” Radke said. “We really try to make defense the main part of our game. When we’re moving around and getting steals, we can look up at the scoreboard and watch it just run up.”
Out of the break, the Sissies continued to dominate through transition, erupting for a 23-0 run before a put-back bucket by Dunbar’s Makayla Malveau with 11 seconds left in the third quarter ended the Lady Wildcats’ scoring drought. Radke scored 10 of her 20 points in the third frame, capping off Bridgeport’s 26-2 run with a 3-pointer before the buzzer.
“In the second half, we really challenge our girls to keep [Dunbar] off the glass a little bit,” Shearmire said. “We subbed, and it kind of got a little ugly. We stopped them from scoring until really late in the third quarter just by keeping our hands up, not getting lazy and trying not to reach in and foul. We picked little things to work on, and I’m so proud of the girls for what they did tonight.”
Bridgeport closed the game out by outscoring Dunbar 18-9 in the final quarter, added a trio of deep shots to the team’s total.
Case led Bridgeport’s efforts in the win, nailing six 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 30 points.
“Having a night like tonight means a lot, and it really helps out the team,” Case said. “I was just focused on hitting my shots and getting the points we needed to get the win. I was seeing a lot of open looks, and I thought we moved the ball really well as a team. Our defense was excellent, and it definitely allowed us to score as much as we did.”
Bridgeport will face 4A No. 12 Lubbock-Cooper Liberty in an area-round clash Thursday at Abilene Christian University. Game time was not confirmed as of Monday night.
Competing in just their third season in program history, the Lady Patriots (28-4) opened the postseason with a 42-29 bi-district win over Glen Rose Monday at ACU.
“Lubbock-Cooper Liberty is a young school, but they are building tradition in a hurry,” Shearmire said. “They’re very fundamental, play tough man defense and have three or four shooters that can light it up. Coach [Morgan] Glaspie has that team peaking at the right time. We are going to have to get to the shooters and be better at rebounding, for sure. But on any given night, we can surprise people when we get in sync. We have matured tremendously since Christmas and found some leadership out there. I’m excited to get out there and compete against such as well-coached class team.”
