Sissies fall to Kennedale in season opener

Despite playing on their home turf, the Bridgeport Sissies opened the 2026 season with a loss Tuesday.

Bridgeport (0-1) was shut out by Kennedale at Bull Memorial Stadium, 4-0.

“”We started off a bit timid and flat-footed, but we really settled in after halftime and played much better soccer,” Bridgeport coach Lindsay Miller said. “I saw a lot of positives tonight. The girls’ mental resilience stood out — they never gave up, no matter the score. They work well as a unit and support each other on and off the field. We are a young team, which is actually exciting because it means we have so much room to grow together throughout the season. With a few minor adjustments, I think we’ll see some positive changes moving forward.”

The Sissies began playing in the Wichita Falls tournament Thursday, and faced Wichita Falls Legacy, Dumas and Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy. Tournament results were not available by story publication.

“Ideally, we’d like to go 3-0, but I’d be happy walking away with at least two wins,” Miller said.

Bridgeport travels to face Lake Dallas 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, and will face Azle, Carter-Riverside and Chisholm Trail at Chisholm Trail’s X-Town Tournament, slated for Jan. 15-17.

Despite a youthful roster, Miller is optimistic about the Sissies’ chances this season.

“I really believe in this group,” she said. “If we keep working together and use our games before district to iron out details, I think we can finish at the top of the district and make some noise in the playoffs — at least get past the first round.”
