The worst of the flooding is over from the heavy rainfall April 30–May 6 that tested the lake and tributaries in Wise County.

Now, as the water recedes, the extent of damage to properties and area roads is coming into view.

While most roadways have reopened with only minor issues like loose gravel, a handful of locations remain closed due to structural concerns. Farm Road 730, one of the only major roads that’s still shut down, sustained damage near the Trinity River crossing, where backflow compromised the edge and support structure of at certain points on the road, said Boyd Mayor Rodney Holmes.

He said TxDOT has not yet provided a firm timeline, but when FM 730 does open, it will be reduced to one lane with construction and temporary traffic signals at either end of the damaged section.

On Monday, Wise County commissioners approved the purchase of right-of-way for the bridge on County Road 1590 in an effort to fast-track repairs. As of Monday evening, the bridge remained closed with visible damage and water continuing to crest over the road.

Commissioner Colby Shawn also reported that County Road 3390 and several other roads in his precinct have reopened, though some remain affected by loose gravel.

“CR 3250 has now reopened, but please use caution—there are still areas with loose gravel where the roadway was washed out,” Shawn said in a statement. “Precinct 3 has successfully reopened CR 4868 (Bobo Crossing) and CR 4757 (Van Meter) as well. Like CR 3250, these roads also have loose gravel in some areas due to flood damage, so please drive carefully.”

Shawn also thanked residents for their patience and praised the efforts of road crews:

“Our road crews have put in long hours—including weekends and overnight shifts—to prioritize public safety. On behalf of all the commissioners, I want to extend our deepest thanks to the teams who worked tirelessly throughout this event.”
