Perkins
Richard Lee Perkins, age 73, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2025. Born on Sept. 5, 1951, he lived a full and loving life surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Marvin and Sallie Perkins; and his sister Judith Perkins.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rena Sue Perkins; sister, Joyce Barnett; brother, Melvin Perkins; children, Shane Perkins and wife, Christi; Chad Perkins and wife, Tracie; Trena Shoemaker and husband, Kevin; and Cory Perkins and wife, Michelle. He was a cherished grandfather to Mattie, Chryslyn, Jacob, Josh, Jacie, Noah, Lillie, Taylor, Ryan, and a proud great-grandfather to Liam.
Richard served as a dedicated plant manager for Hanson, Martin Marietta, and Vulcan Materials in Chico for over 25 years. Before that, he owned and operated his own body shop, where he combined his skill and passion for mechanics with a strong work ethic and pride in craftsmanship.
Outside of work, Richard loved to tinker on old tractors and cars—he could fix anything. He also enjoyed fishing and going on camping trips. Richard had a great sense of humor and loved pranking people, always finding a way to make others laugh. His hands were rarely idle, and his mechanical talent was matched only by his generous spirit and willingness to help others.
Richard will be remembered for his kindness, strength, sense of humor, the way he loved pranking people, and his unwavering love for family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Friday, May 30, at 2 p.m., at Hilltop Assembly of God in Boyd.
